Need Help Building PC

hello people... i'm new.. this is my first post...and unfortuneatly i need help.

Trying to build a PC for the first time. Please remember I'm on a Tight Budget

Already Bought:

CASE: Comet Mid ATX 300Watt
RAM: 256MB PC2100
HARDDRIVE: Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM

Looking to Buy:
CPU: Athlon XP 1800 CPU (i don't know what to buy.. Retail or OEM version)
MOBO: ECS K7S5A


What else do I need? Thanks for the input people =)

difference between oem and retail is retail includes a heatsink and oem does not

i would say go with retail becuase i dont think you will be overclocking and the retail heatsink should be good enough

ifyou buy oem, you will have to buy an aftermarket heatsink which for a decent one will cost pretty much the same amount as if you buy retail

that motherboard is a pretty good one
not too good for overclocking (but you probably wont be doing so anyways right?)

what about sound card? (or are you going to use onboard?)
what about cdrom/cdrw/dvdrom? (only need 1 of these, more than 1 are extra of course)
floppy drive?
video card?

it has onboard lan so no need to buy a nic

thanks eKatsbzboy...i was gonna use my sound card from my present computer for now... and a video card i'm lookin at a generic Radeon 7000 64mb AGP w/tv out... got any ideas on that?

well is ati radeon 8500 out of the question?
its not that much and much better (features and speed wise)


or maybe go to nvidia?
nvidia geforce 2 ti is a pretty good card
if you can get geforce 3 ti200 its also a good card

if not 7000 is a decent card
maybe compare reviews between some of the cards i listed and find one that you can afford and like
