Ok, need some thoughts on PCs to buy.

1 Laptop is for my Dad. He does basic computer - Checks emails, remote desktops using gotomypc, looks at photos, burns cds/dvds, word processing...basically just stuff that any pc should be able to do. No video games, no photo editing, just maybe some light multi tasking. He travels a lot for work so he wants it to be light and have a decent battery life.

These are the ones I found -

I've been out of the laptop game for a while, so which laptop is the most realiable?

He keeps complaining that he doesn't want to go cheap, but I keep telling him he doesn't need anything more than the basics.

Other 3 laptops - He owns a retail store. He wants to have some laptops or displays on the counter so he can show customers pictures on the web and product information. Buying new laptops at 500 dollars a peice just to show pics and text seems like a huge waste of money. Any ideas on products that can do this well and cheap? Has to look professional.

Any advice is helpful!!!

LoL! ANY ADVICE?!?!? Okay, here goes...

#1 and #2 are a toss-up... they're all about battery life! I don't think he's gonna be happy with the performance of either one. I know I wouldn't be...

The AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 is only 130% faster than an Intel Atom N280, so if you want to go that route, you might as well buy him an HD netbook!

#2 and #3 are workhorses - and they look like it. Great for tossing in a backpack or farting around the house but... Blah!!!

If it was my dad (and especially given his criteria) I'd go with an HP! For instance...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834147997 (Newegg - HP G60-438NR - $499.00 +FS)

Sure, it's a workhorse (like the Toshiba and the lenovo) but... it's an HP... e.g. he'll have bragging rights.

It looks great (professional) has an HD screen (like the Gateway and the Acer) but it's got a REAL processor (like the Toshy and the lenovo).

It's also got Altec Lansing speakers (which is a major plus), it's luggable, and the price is right! Something, like that, would be my choice...

Happy hunting!

Many inexpensive laptops have lousy battery life.

Here's one which doesn't:

I would think that even the basic laptops these days could handle office and web browsing multi tasking with ease.

He bought a HP desktop a bit ago and the HD has crashed a few times...how is their quality.

I have a suggestion for your dad's store displays: http://ncomputing.com/

We are experimenting with this at work now for setting up temporary banks of "PCs" for general use.

This assumes that they'd be relatively close together.
