Alright so I have me a Dell XPS M1530. I went to install the display drivers required for my GeForce 8M Series and there was a suggestion to upgrade the BIOS which I did. Then I try to run the NVIDIA setup and get the following error:

An error (-5006 : 0x80070005) has occurred while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: NVIDIA Corporation.

These are the Details when I expand:
Error Code: -5006 : 0x80070005
Error Information:
>SetupNew\setup.cpp (615)
PAPP:NVIDIA Windows Software
PVENDOR:NVIDIA Corporation
PGUIDE4DF4A7-8E12-41EE-B7DD-1A9E6E4117EB
$14.0.0.162
@Windows Vista Service Pack 0 (6000) Non IE/Netscape 11352.63

Funny thing is that I am running Windows 7 Evaluation Copy build 7100 (Just installed).

I tried googling but all I get is costly fixes. I know there has to be a better way. Any help is greatly appreciated. If more information is needed please let me know.

There were no drivers for display that I have checked. I've installed all the important updates for Windows 7 so far. No luck. I actually could run the installation this time, but it just says that the InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed NVIDIA Windows Software. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

While it said it was installing the drivers nothing really seemed to happened that is supposed to. And it never asks for a restart. So I figured this is completely wrong. :\ Grrrr

You're so cool, all geeky and stuff with Windows 7 pimpin'. I'll look a bit later for a solution but here's a bump in the meantime.

Don't use the installer. Use 7-Zip to extract/decompress the installer package as though it were a regular zip file. Then use the update driver thingy and point Windows to the driver INF files.

OhSnap688,

Windows update or drivers that come with Windows 7 RC should work just fine as there are several other users who have the same XPS with the same chipset. Have you tried, just as a test, to reinstall Windows 7 RC and see if that works? If you are still looking for other solutions, you may want to check the forums over at Microsoft for direct support. Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

I've had botched driver installs that left temp/install folders that were causing any subsequent install attempt to do something similar to your problem. I really don't remember if these files were in the windows temp folders or somewhere else.

If you're absolutely sure that you have the correct driver, look for those temp folders. You could also look into the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility."
