I am going to be purchasing a Socket A CPU to go with my new KT7A-Raid Board today, and I have three CPU choices right now and I cant seem to decide!
I am looking for the best price/performance/OCability I can get for the Price.
The CPU's all come with a KoolKast Monster Cooler.
Choice #1 is a Tbird 850 for $151
Choice #2 is a Tbird 800 for $138
Choice #3 is a Duron 750 for $90

I need to decide by 5:00 PST!!!
Help me please!!!

I have the duron 700 oc to 900 and I am very happy with it. The price you quote I think is a little high though. Here are the prices at mwave.com. The best bang for the buck is the duron but the t-birds do have a little better performance, but as I said I am very happy with my duron.

I would look for a CPU elsewhere because you can definitely do better price-wise. Check pricewatch.com. But at those prices, I'd probably go with the Duron and hope it would OC to 950 MHz or so.

CPU is gonna be used for Gaming primarily with some dvd viewing, and photoshop and dreamweaver occasionally.

the prices I have there are with a good quality HS/F and I can pick them up locally, the prices seemed comparable to the best deals I could find on pricewatch, plus they have a 1 year warranty. the 150 for the 850 is at the absolute top end of what I can spend!

i bought a t-bird 850 for 115 shipped. Those prices are too high.

Edit: i just checked pricewatch, and the t-bird 850's price is increased, but only by a few bucks

DVD viewing is fine, my Athlon 550 didn't choke on that so even a Duron750 wouldn't.

In most gaming circumstances the video card is more of an issue to perfomrance than the CPU, so I'd lean towards the Duron there to. A 750Duron has enough juice to push the video card....

So depends on how much photoshop stuff you do, that would definately benefit from the TBird...but I'd be looking Duron myself.

Leo V posted an equation for the most price/performance of the Thunderbird chips about a month ago. Really! The T-Bird 800 was the best choice, according to it, and I would believe it, just because the equation made total sense. Damn that guy is brilliant.

if the highest you're gonna go is the Tbird 850 you might as well get the duron.
