need help choosing memory

I building a new rig, with a pentium4 2.4c which I plan to overcolck to 3ghz.

I understand choosing memory that will suit the processor is very important. Unfortunately, I don't know the first thing about memory.

What should I get? I don't wanna skimp, but I also don't want to spend big bucks.. something with a good price/performance ratio.

These are expensive but Corsair have a great name,are than the other high performance DDR manufactures
and Anandtech use them all the time in there reviews.

One thing watch for the DDR-Ram speed,the FSB of the P4c is 800mhz so two 400mhz dimms in dual channel is perfect
but if your going to overclock that much,raise the FSB as well and get fast Ram to match it.I heard the P4-2.4C does to a FSB
of 1000Mhz

With DDR-Ram,if you see PC2700 or PC3200 divide it by 8 to get the speed in Mhz

hmmm....i also have a quick question.

i purchased an amd 2500+ barton processor and a mobo that supports 400mhz fsb. if i buy pc3200 ram, i dont need to o/c the ram or anything right? im looking at the buffalo tech 512mb pc3200 ram @ newegg.com and it seems like a pretty good deal to me. i want to run @ 400mhz, so with this setup, and this memory, i'd be fine, right?

any other memory suggestions out there as well? thanks!

It will work perfectly at 400Mhz and the motherboard will work perfectly at 400Mz.
But since the FSB of the 2500+ is 333Mhz it wont run at 400Mhz.
PC2700 Ram is a better choice,if your not overccloking.
But if your going to overclock,i`ll shut up now

buffalo pc3200, runs 225 mhz EASY. all for $89.50 for a 512 stick (newegg). just make sure your mobo takes the CH-5 chips

im not planning on overclocking...yet! later on when my computer starts feeling a little sluggish, ill start pushin 400mhz and up the processor speeds a bit. plan on running bone stock for now. so i figure i might as well invest in pc3200 when that time comes, right? (unless pc3200 ram prices decrease so steeply that itll be worth it to buy it later by the time it comes out, which i highly doubt).

but i think i figured out which ram i want to get. newegg has the buffalo 512mb pc3200 ram (winbond chips) for 86 shipped, which is pretty good.

It refers to the Speed of the Ram : Ch-5 PC3200 Ch-6 PC2700.
But since you said the FSB is 400Mhz,it will support it.
what is your motherboard

Ch-5 is the module on the ram PCB. it is great stuff made buy winbond BUT it seems Ch-5 is less compatiable with 865/875 chipsets than BH-5

I'm getting a bit confused..

If I wanna overclock a 2.4c to 3ghz, will I need to raise the FSB? And if I raise the FSB, I need faster ram so it will have the same fsb?
