I'm finally upgrading. What do you think about the parts I have selected?
The video card I already have is an ATI 9800 Pro, which I think is fine for me since I'm not much of a gamer.

I probably will try to overclock the cpu, but nothing outrageous.

My one other question is about my current power supply. It's an Enermax EG301P-VE.
+3.3V 28A
+5V 30A
+12V 22A
-5V 1A
-12V 1A
+5VSb 2.2A
+3.3V&5V 170W
Total power 300w

Will this work with the new system? If not, any recommendations?

-An AGP R9800 will not fit on a PCIe board. You need a PCIe video card.

-Your ram is pretty expensive, you can drop down to value ram for under $100.

-You dont need a $50 heatsink if you get retail. Since you will be doing light OC'ing, why not just use the retail initially until you "need" something better?

-As for the PSU it will probably work (if its a 24 pin version) if its only 20 pins it will probably not work. DFI requires a 24 pin and even then, 300watts is pretty low for a system like this.

Thanks for the quick response

Any recommendations on video cards/ram/psu?

I think I will scrap the better heatsink for now. Thanks

If you aren't much of a gamer then go with a simple PCI-e card maybe something like this Text
with the motherboard you chose, you will have to go with some expensive memory like this

Why do I need more expensive memory for this motherboard?
Would you recommend a different motherboard?

Well here is the deal, that motherboard is the best out there for overclocking, the only problem with it is that it's a little complicated to use and it is very picky about what memory you put in it and what PSU you have feeding the beast.

Anything you can recommend that is relatively cheap that works with this mobo?

Should I just get a different mobo?

Buy cheaper ram (value ram), cheaper mobo (chaintech ultra vnf4) and sink the extra cash into your power supply(do a search for power supplies). Go with a 6600gt refurb video card, good value and good performance. Remember to factor the extra cash you will get from selling old parts. I find that it helps justify additional purchases

I like the suggestion of the 6600gt. Any specific suggestions for ram/mobo?

Just run with a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra (~$92 @ newegg) and 1 GB (512X2) value ram. There have been tons of 1GB Ram Kits for ~$65 after rebate the last few weeks.

Thanks
I'll check out that mobo.
I have had 2x512mb of ram for about 3 years now and I would really like to upgrade to 2x1GB

6600gt, 512mb 2 sticks valueram (corsair, mushkin, kingston etc), 420watt enermax, and a VNF4 Ultra sounds pretty good. By the way, what are your current system specs?
