Well i built the computer in my sig a few years back, and about 6 months ago if wasn't working so I brought it home and used my laptop, now that I am home again I would like to fix it.

I believe the problem is that it was overheating/overheated a few times. The memtest results are all wacky. With only one stick of ram in, either stick, it will pass. As soon as i put them both in at once it fails.

I want to turn this computer into a DVR for next year as I now use my laptop for everything, so It would be nice if i could just use it as a backup and a DVR. I would like to keep as many parts as possible from What I have, especially the video card.

Do i just need new ram? A new motherboard? or is it worse than that?

any help/suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

If it works with either module by itself but fails with both at once the problem is almost certainly either the CPU or motherboard. You could try running it at a lower speed and with relaxed timings, though the stability of the system may still be questionable over time.

Try bumping your VDIMM voltage and see if MemTest planes out.
Those boards are notorious for that.

Also consider the possiblity that memtest fails with both because of a faulty (CPU-integrated) memory controller. Could be a result of lack of Vcore, or CPU overheating. Either way, better CPU cooling would help if you are looking to use it as a DVR.
