Are LGA755 and Socket 755 the same thing?

I want to get a motherboard that takes Socket 755 and I found a CPU that I want thats a LGA755. Are they compatible together?

socket 775 and lga 775 are the same exact thing. Be sure to check if your cpu is compatible with the motherboard, though, since just being able to plug the cpu in doesnt mean it will work (this mostly applies to the 800 series but also might apply to the 600 series).

Same socket, just make sure the motherboard's chipset is compatible with your CPU.

yeah i think only the pentium D have compatibility "issues"
they just only work in the latest chipset.

I would not recommend that board. Never even heard of the company. A board that has both AGP and PCI-e and both DDR and DDR2 is making a huge compromise in performance, quality, etc. You're better off just getting a LGA775 board that uses AGP if you still want to use your 9800 Pro.

But I want to be able to upgrade to a Pci-express card when Unreal Tournament 2007 comes out. That game will be very demanding when it comes to your video card.

And I don't want to just switch to Pci-Ex yet because my 9800 Pro is not even a year old yet.

Well, the AGP on that board plugs into regular old PCI (NOT PCI-E), as it is not native AGP. This means that you WILL get a performance hit if you use your 9800Pro and that board together. And as others have said, having both DDR and DDR2 as well as AGP and PCI-E means that the company has made some compromises. The company, PC-Chips, also sucks ass. My uncle had one of their boards, and as soon as he added a real sound card (an SB Live!), the whole thing became unstable, and continued to be until he got a new setup (it wasn't a power issue, as he had an Antec 400W PSU).

Long story short: look for another mobo.
