Need Help Installing A Fan In My Receiver

I have a Panasonic SA-HE200 receiver that is currently running without a fan. The original fan died last year and I tried replacing it by soldering a new fan's leads into the position the old fan had occupied but that never worked. I gave up and just brought it with me to college to use as an amp for my headphones and small speakers hooked up to my PC. It got really hot when used for awhile and it's pretty easy to get the "Overload" message which will shut it down.

I'd like to finally get another fan running for this thing but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like this. I've got a spare Panaflo fan (model FBA08A12L, DC12V, 0.1A) with a bare red and blue lead coming from it but I haven't the slightest clue where to solder them to get it to run. Any ideas? I can take a pic of the receivers internals later if that would help.

Thanks in advance!

if you soldered it to the previous terminals then it is most likely the source powering the fan that is broken...not the old fan.

Have you tested the fan you removed to see if it works?

No, the fan didn't have a standard 2 or 3 pin connector like those in my PC, but it didn't have bare leads either....they had a notched metal piece that was connected/soldered to the points on the receiver.

All you have to do to test the fan is connect the wires to a 9v battery.

Will do when I get home and find a battery. I already tried connecting another fan to the points that the old one was running from-- lets assume the fan isn't at fault and the fan connection in the receiver is busted...is there another place I could solder the fans leads to power it?

Did you ever figure this out? I'm in the same situation. Except my receiver is heating up and shutting off in the space I have it. I would really like to get that fan working. I tried another fan with the same connector but that didn't power up when I turned the receiver on. If its volume/heat activated...it might be nice to try and bypass it to run the fan all the time. Anybody?
