I have an older sidewinder 3d pro that I tried to install. Here's a couple questions. In device manager it doesn't list my gameport under "Sound, vid, and Gameport" instead it is listed under "Creative Miscellaneous Devices". Is this normal? When I installed the software for the stick it lists it correctly in the control panel under Game COntrollers but hte status keeps flashing from OK to Unknown?????? ANyone ever seen this? SHould I just uninstall my SBLive drivers and reinstall everything?

I think my gameport actually may be bad. I reinstalled my SBLive drivers and even got new drivers for the stick. I get the same problem.
Is there a gameport to usb connector I could try? What else can I do to isolate what the problem is?

I would try a known good joystick before assuming the port is bad. Older joysticks get banged up and can cause the "unknown" message.

I fully empathize my friend, cuurently have the same problem with my 3d pro, wont work with the game port of the board or the game port of the sb live ex gamer. Tried reinstalling windows 98 still unconnected. My computer however recognizes my sidewinder game pad using the usb. I still think its the game port configuration both the boards and sblive card. The 3d pro works in my other cpmputer so i know its functional. Let me know if you resolve this irritating problem. Just built my first system last week and still waiting for my windows me ope that resolves the problem. I will try to format and do clean reinstall with only video card on board and will load the sb live x gamer card last.

P.S. been getting alot of fatal errors when I use power dvd, hoping windows ME will fix all of these (dont really expect it to)

My system
1ghz Thunderbird notoclocked
MSI KT7 pro 2a 2.2 Bios version/Via 4.28 drivers
crucial 256 memory cas 2
annihilator 2 mmx 32 mb agp video card
sb live x-gamer
western digital 30gb ata100

I had the Sidewinder 3DPro (older one with no USB) working fine for a long time on my BH-6 with a SB-Lixe X-Gamer. I installed an Abit KT7A-Raid last night and now the controller is showing a "disconnected". I reinstalled the SW3.02 drivers, DX8, DX8a, reinstalled my SB-Live, moved the SB to a different slot....still nothing. I know the SBL game port is fine and in Devive Manager it is seen and looks fine. I also know the Sidewinder works fine. I just can't figure out why they will not work together in the KT7A-Raid. I WILL:disgust: get this working somehow, someway.

I am in the same boat as you an dicktinsay.... Ever since I updated my os past win98(first edition) my older precision pro doesn't always work..

I replaced it with a logitech 3d force wingman.... Much happier....

I know about this issue concerning the SideWinder 3Dpro, had *same* problem
after upgrading my BH6 to a KT7. I called M$, the problem is the higher FSB
speeds that the Athlon runs at. My solution for my Win95B system, which does
not support USB joysticks, was to switch my 3Dpro to "analog mode". Read the
insturction sheet to do this, choose "CH FlightStick Pro", adjust Joystick(analog) switch on bottom of 3Dpro to position 1. You'll lose all your base buttons tho.

If I had Win98, I would most likely have upgraded to a USB joystick...

Hey NuovoTech,

Thanks for the tip. It all works now!! I do wonder if anyone knows a source for an adapter to use to be able to plug this thing into USB. I know the newer ones come with one, but no one seems to have any for individual sale. Any ideas?

Thanks again for the tip.

Glad that worked...the SW 3DPro will not work as an USB device, even if your
OS supports that. It was barely digital!
