need help Laptop or desktop?

Hi I need help picking a laptop thats great for gaming, playing all the new games without breaking the piggy bank. Do laptop monitors have ghosting ? Between 1000 to 1500.or should I just update my desktop.I have 3 teenagers all help will be appreciated.I have looked on ebay at used xps .Help please, I have used anandtech many yrs, many great buys and advice. Thanks Bill

Do you need a laptop? If not then just get a desktop.....better performance for less $

As for ghosting, most laptops seem to be equipped with TN LCD panels, which means they won't have very good viewing angle, but shouldn't ghost too badly, so straight on gaming should work fine.

Yeah, if you don't have a specific reason to get a laptop (like you're going to be moving it around a lot), then definately get a desktop. You can get a very nice gaming system running for $800 to $1000 (without monitor, but it sounds like you have one already) that will blow away any laptop in the pricerange.

I would only get a laptop if you really need to have something that's portable. Otherwise, stick with a desktop since you'll get a lot more out of it for the money. As Ben said, better performence for less money. You'll also have various upgrade paths that simply aren't available with a laptop.

What is your current desktop? For $1000 to $1500 you can put together a whole new rig with really decent specs...

Agree with all hear. You can build an excellent gaming system for 1000 - 1500. You would need to spend a lot more than that to get a top performing gaming laptop.

My recommendation would be that if you want a "gaming system" and a "laptop", then build a gaming desktop (or update your existing one) and try to find a deal on a used laptop (doesn't have to be real fast to be good for email/websurfing on the go).

If you want a "gaming laptop", you're not going to find much under $2000-2500 that compares to even a $500-1000 desktop. Plus it'll be big, hot, and heavy.

I'm going to suggest this too. As for the laptop, look at Thinkad T20's on ebay - should be able to pick one up for ~$400. They're excellent for word processing/web browsing, plus they're super durable (good with kids using them).

If you can only buy one - I'd buy the desktop.
