Just finished writing a very simple tool this morning, just not sure what to call it.
It started out as a sort of time clock, at least in my mind, but has been tweaked slightly since then. It's primary use is for people to be able to see who is available, who is on a project/meeting, who is on break, and who is not here (off shift). It's used by a few offices that all answer our support lines together, and need to coordinate breaks and meetings.
It has the ability for an individual user to flag themselves on break, on lunch, in a meeting, or in/out of shift. It has a list down one side of all users, color coded with their status, and a mouseover that displays what they're working on (if you go into a meeting you can enter a custom comment).
It does not show times to users as it does not have any effect on payroll at all, and is not intended as a tool to monitor time on breaks/lunches.
From the back end management will use it to help justify how many people we need, such as if we missed a call (we have a 97% answer rate goal) then they can show that people were busy and/or on calls, so there was no possible way to answer. Before this we just kind of guessed, and it resulted in us being cut down by 3 or 4 people, and our answer rate going to hell for months.
All of that being said, "time clock" isn't really an appropriate description. My boss suggested "The Collaborator", but I pointed out that some may not get the most warm/fuzzy feeling from that. We jokingly call it the Delorian right now, because it helps you manage time (ha.), but I'd like a more permanent name.
Any ideas?
