NEED HELP never OC'D before

I am running:
Wolfdale 3.0 8400
P5Q Deluxe
Asus 4850 HD 512
2 GIG Crucial ballistix 8500
650 watt TXW CORSAIR PSU
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm

I have never overclocked before and I downloaded all the programs recommended but I have no clue what they do or what they are showing me. Does anyone have a simple way of helping me OC this. I just want to get my feet wet so I can start to learn this better.

If that's too complicated, you may want to skip the overclocking until you familiarize yourself a bit more with your system and components.

Geez when did that guide get to be so long lol. Probably scared the guy since there's so much detail on the voltages, not so much being complicated.

Do you know how RAM speed, CPU speed and FSB are related? If not, I'd start there. As someone above said, build up your knowledge.

Can you be more specific than it's a bit complicated? Were there specific parts that tripped you up, or was the entire guide over your head?

If you consider the guide to complicated I don't think you're ready to overclock. That's not to say you should give up on it, just that you need to boost your background knowledge first.

That stickied o/c guide is really the one-stop place to go. I had no clue what I was doing before and after reading that guide once, was able to overclock my E2160 from 1.8GHz to 3.0GHz and do testing to check for stability. That information there is pretty much the most basic information you should know, and pretty concise IMO. If you don't take the time to read before trying you will run the risk of frying your video card, etc.

It's not really that long, and you can do selective reading/skipping on a few sections.
