Edit: here was i am running

P4 3.0ghz

The watt ratings don't really mean much. That could outpower a 600w generic PSU. And probably your old one as well. It has 19A of the 12v rail. It should be sufficient for anything you could fit in a desktop case, except for maybe SLI or small form dual opteron. What model of PSU did you have before?

If your really worried, save $20 and get this. Active PFC, 36A 12v, and made by fortron. Talk about beefy->

The dvd drive is only 7 months old was working fine till i tried the new 120mm fan. When i tried the fan it was running slow then i smelled some burning. And once the dvd drive was burnt out the fan went to normal speed. What are some good manufactures of power supply's? from what ive read looks like enermax, antec dont know about any others though. What about something like this?

i thought u were on a budget, thats way overkill i have a shuttle running:
pentium 4 3Hgz, gig of memory, 74 gig raptor, 200gig seagate, audigy2, 6800GT, and a plextor dvd burner on a 250watt shuttle power supply

I would like to stick to the budget but its somewhat flexible. If i need to spend the extra money now I will just dont want to have to worry about the PSU for awhile

This is very solid advice, 350 watts will run your system just fine, pick the best 300-400watt PSU you're budget will allow. Seasonic and anything made by Forton gets my recommendation.

An all round good power supply would be the Neopower 480Watt with Active PFC. Modular design too so just connect the cables you need. I like the active PFC, saves on your power bill, creates a more efficient power supply too.
