NEED HELP ON UNKNOWN PROBLEM!!!

I have decided to upgrade my slow P4 1.8ghz Dell 512 ram by getting:

Lian Li case
DFI Lanparty UT 250gb motherboard
AMD 64 3000 2.01ghz processor
Corsair ValueSelect 512 MB 184-Pin DDR-DIMM (two of them to make 1 gb)

when i installed everything into the case and tried to format the drive and reinstall windows, either one or a few of the following happened, constantly. (i have formatted and reinstalled windows 4-5 times within 12 hours):

1. The computer would restart by itself when it got to the windows xp load screen
2. the monitor would go on standby(off) and the computer would be either doing nothing or be trying to run my dvd drive.
3. While installing windows, at the end when it finishes up, it would go to the blue screen and say
"Machine_Check_Exception"
"***Stop: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x00000000, 0xB2000000, 0x00070f0f)
"Beginning dump of physical memory"
4. when i finally installed windows xp and shut down and restart or just restart, the computer would do the standby thing (#2) or it would go to the screen telling me to select to go either on safe mode or normal mode or last known settings.

(right now it is connected to a dvdrom drive, radeon 9600 video card, soundblaster live sound card, floppy drive, seagate 80gb hardrive, and a used unknown 350 watt power supply.

PLEASE HELP!!! IM GOING CRAZY AND FEEL LIKE MELTING THIS ALL DOWN TO NOTHING!!!

Try it with a single stick of ram, with each one seperately. And how are the temps (in the bios)?
oh and memory timings or voltage issues come to mind too.

i tried using one of each ram at a time and it does the same thing... i ordered a new power supply but would that really cause program problems like that?...temp is fine i think.. cpu temp 49

Your optical drive is not SATA is it?

also maybe cpu not installed correctly or too much goop

sounds like a ram problem to me. make sure they are seated correctly. if its a dual channel setup, make sure they are placed in the correct dimm slots.

Make sure there's no extra standoffs on the case that could be touching the motherboard. That could cause a lot of problems....

DON'T MELT THAT SYSTEM DOWN! It's a nice rig. Just enjoy the fun of putting it together and troubleshooting the problems out of it. First unplug everything you don't need except for the CD and HD. Next is to check to see if you don't have a RAM problem buy using 1 at a time instead of both. Next would be to see if it isn't a Power supply problem by switching power supplies. (You could actually do these steps at the same time) Next would be to see if you don't have a bad HD.
