Need help please read.

I have a problem that I cant seem to fix, I updated my bois and the computer would not boot or even post, so I bought a new MB from a member here thinking that would cure the problem but it didnt. Heres the thing, I install everything and the system powers on but nothing happends,no post or boot and the Hard drives dont even make a sound. So I took out all the add in cards and left only the Video card installed to see if maybe my sound card or another card was causeing the trouble but still no boot or post. I have 2 hard drives so I unhooked the slave hard drive and just left the hard drive in that has the operating system on it and set the jumber to master and still nothing. Heres the funny thing when I unhook the IDE cable from the HDs and power on the system both hard drives spin up or power up. I tried new cables no luck. I need some advice, I think the odds of both HD going out at the same time is slim and with a new MB i dont think thats the problem. Could it be the Power Supply? Any ideas are welcome. Will a system show the post set up screen even with hard drives died?

What type of power supply? I wouldn't have dumped the old mobo so quickly but thats just me.

no beeps or anything is mobo or PS, sounds like PS now. this may sounds stupid but make sure your pwer supply's power switch is correct.

Well the system powers on, and the fans turn on, fan on ATI card turns on, dvd drives power on. its just strange the hard drives dont fire up unless the IDE cable is un pluged. The power supply is 450 wts. Can the computer show the post screen with bad HDs? At one point when I had all the add in cards out of the system and only the Video and hard drive hooked up it took me several times to get the system to turn on, what would make the hard drives not work with the IDE plug in? Like I said I have 2 HDs and they both do the same thing, and its hard to believe both HDs would go out at the same time.

sounds like a power supply problem to me, if you have a spare psu lying arround, even if it's not the best in the world, give it a try. If not, there's always comp USA/circuit city/walmart/etc, even if it turns out to still not work, you'd have a spare lying arround for just such an emergency.

I dont have another PS but if enough of you think its the PS ill buy one, thanks for all the help.

have you tried powering on with both hard drives unplugged (ide cable & power)? the system should still post, but not boot. if you can get that far then it is probably not the mb or psu. if that works then try plugging in one thing at a time (i.e. hdd, optical. etc).

Yes I tried to get it to post with nothing but the Vid card in and no post.

OK! Its not the ram or Vid card, I think is down to the PS or the AMD XP3000 its self.
