Everything but marijuana in CA has a warning label. So with these things so prolific, do you think anyone bothers to read a label more than once? It's like the boy crying out wolf. Let CA actually ban all products that "cause" cancer. Then the residents can eat twigs and berries and walk without shoes.

it's known to the state of california that walking around bare foot can lead to cancer.

On serious note a lot of pesticides they use in food now days can cause cancer, birth defects and other illnesses. If even half of what California says can cause cancer is true, there is definitely something that has to be done about it. In 100 years from now when safer alternatives are in use they'll be talking about it like we talk about asbestos today. There is a lot more cancer now than say, 100 years ago, so there's SOMETHING we are doing that is causing it.

Yes, pesticides used in food production and could be bad if you directly ingested a large amount of them in a single sitting or used them in a way contraindicated by the label. However, the amount found on your food is far below any level that would ever cause harm.

In California practically anything will cause cancer... D:

California Proposition 65 (1986)

Proposition 65 (formally titled "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986") is a California law passed by direct voter initiative in 1986 by a 63%-37% vote. Its goals are to protect drinking water sources from toxic substances that may cause cancer and birth defects and to reduce or eliminate exposures to those chemicals generally, for example in consumer products, by requiring warnings in advance of those exposures.

Warning label

The following warning language is standard on products sold in California if they contain chemicals on the Proposition 65 list and the amount of exposure caused by the product is not within defined safety limits.
WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
The wording can be changed as necessary, so long as it communicates that the chemical in question is known to the state to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm. For exposures from other sources, such as car exhaust in a parking garage, a standard sign might read: "This area contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm".[14]

Who cares if this proposition passed years back. It definitely does not affect me as a consumer seeing this label being put on food/entrances to certain areas/etc. It doesn't even cost the producer any more money to put that on their label either.

I will not lie though that it is nice to see when a certain area/product has that label, because there are times when I will research why it has the label on it. It lets me choose alternatives if those alternatives are just as good minus the potentially cancerous item.

I only look up the things that actually matter to me (e.g. visit the area very regularly, consume the product very regularly, etc.), and I feel like it does literally zero harm having this supposed redundancy.

I also don't get why many people feel the need to try to shit on California. I also don't see why many Californians feel the need to shit on other states. Just mind your own business and let state-specific characteristics like: migration patterns, economic changes, unemployment rates, state finances, crime rates, graduation rates, etc. show for themselves.

Just like cigarettes. They put that stupid cancer label on every pack and AD or coupon and is the cigarette industry losing any money? Nope!

Would it not be more economical to have a sticker that states this product does not cause cancer known to the state of California. That way you assume everything is a carcinogen. I wonder how much money is wasted putting that warning on just about everything.

Sorry, to clarify - I meant it does not negatively affect me (a lot of people on here act like that label negatively affects their livelihood)
