My aunt just dropped off her comp and the thing wont power up. I have made sure everything is connected, PSU to Mobo, all fans and ram. Blew out all the dust and reconnected all wires. Still no power when I plug it in?

Where should I start and what to do next? Plug the PS from my comp into it?

any input would help...thanks

Try booting outside of the case like with just the basics, no cdrom, hard drives, etc. The motherboard could be shorting out but this actually does sound like a dead power supply IMHO.

how to test a psu
just stick the paperclip in there with the green and black wires and turn the PSU on, this article is for something diff but it shows the pics of how it should look. its basically telling the power supply that the mainboards power switch is on.

dont shock yourself

K I plugged my own PSU into it and got fans and lights.....and the little red switch on the back of the PSU looks like its been switched because it was in the middle...not one way or the other....I switched it back to 115v but it still dont work.

Maybe one of her kids messed with that switch and fried the PSU?

if they flipped that switch they are lucky it didnt fry the board. go ahead and test the old psu and youll know for sure if its dead or not... fans start spinning, its not completely dead

If it works with your PSU and doesnt with hers, seems obvious that the old PSU is broken. If you only get lights etc. when you use your PSU, try reseating all the cards, especially the vid card.
