Need help understanding mobile graphics cards

I got a little university fund available after giving some lectures etc...

I can use it to purchase a laptop but I have to get it thru the university
so my choices are some what limited

after comparing a few of them its all boils down to graphics.
The x300 seemed like a good choice but after reading some posts here
It turned out not so good
The Intel one I just don?t understand at all
Shared, dedicated, hyper ? memory ? what?s the difference?

I have a 9700pro in my desktop is 9700mobile a safe bet?

Could some one explain the differences between them plz
Or point me in the right direction

The Video tab at the top of the page has reviews of some mobile graphics processors (GPUs) and of motherboard chipset graphics like the intel.

Intel extreme motherboard graphics are useless for 3D. Other motherboard shared memory graphics are weak at best.

9700 mobile is a nice chipset.

9600 or 9700 is still good now in laptops. better then integrated.

9700 mobile is roughly the same as a 9600pro for desktops, and is definately the best of those video solutions you mentioned.
There are however even more powerfull videocards for notebooks the 6800 Go Ultra and X800 mobile.

Yep, the 9700 mobile is really only a 9600 core, not a true 9700 core. It won't be anywhere near a desktop 9700. The X300 is also really just a 9600 core.

If you're not gaming, or just doing light gaming on low resolutions, then any integrated graphics should work. However, if you don't want it eating up your RAM, then you can go with dedicated.
