Need help Updating Nexus 5 to 5.1.1

I think b/c my phone unlocked, I can't update my Nexus 5 with the OTA 5.1.1 update. So, I'm trying to sideload it but keep getting:

E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I won't try to tell you if you're doing anything wrong, but I'll tell you what worked for me and my unlocked, rooted Nexus 5.

It takes you by the hand, anticipates mistakes, gives you a ton of options (and works great without selecting any), and has been a necessary part of my arsenal since it was first released.

Give it a try and if you get stuck, give a holler.

Thanks but that's what I tried and I also tried to manually do it using Minimal ADB and Fastboot. Both give me the above error.

Last time when I updated to 5.1, I had to a complete factory reset and don't want to do that again if I can b/c it was such a pain in the ass.

When I sideloaded to 5.0, I had a similar problem because windows uses a different driver when you try to sideload. When trying to sideload before entering the commands check to see if the drivers are loaded. I had to reinstall the drivers in order for it to work. You can also do the batch install through fastboot, that's the way I did it to get to 5.1.1 just remember to take off the -w from the bat file.

Thanks but no luck. Uninstalled all the drivers. And reinstalled the Google drivers. Same error message. I'm really hating Android.

Did you check the md5 of the ota? It looks like it's caused by mismatched md5. From what I could find it's from damaged download or sometimes browsers open the zip file.

Wish I saw this first. I found this article - http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-get-android-5-1-lollipop-on-nexus-5 and ran the .bat file

Looks like it updated but it did a factory reset. I screwed myself again.

By default it erases everything on the phone. If you open the bat file with notepad and remove the "-w" from the file it allows you to upgrade without erasing your files.

It's not because your phone is unlocked. It's because you're rooted?
OTA updates on Lollipop will only work if you are completely stock—no root, no mods, nothing.

If you're rooted, you have to unroot first, then flash/apply the OTA zip.
