Long story short, I have been trying to get my new SBLive card to actually push some sound thru the new ACS54 speakers. Not successful at all. Anyway, I had been changing the BIOS settings to diable onchip sound and enable sound blaster. Anyay, this last time I tried to reboot, it just sits there are I select WIN2K Professional. I have gone back to the original settings and tried to reboot, nothing. I even tried to load the fail safe settings in the bois and still no boot.

Any suggestions? Is there anyway to boot with the WIN2K CD and diagnose the problem? I would really like not to lose all my data if I have to re-install WIN2K. Thanks...

I believe that when you boot off of the CD and it detects a Win2K on your computer, there is a repair option.

Thanks. I have booted to Recovery Console. I now have a list of available commands I can run but not sure that will help me. I think this is related to sound. Really have no idea what to do now.

I was hoping that the recovery option would be self-explanatory. I myself have never actually ran it... I only noticed it when I booted from my CD by accident...

Try removing the sound card and see if you can get into Win2K. I had the exact same problem with my MX300 card and this at least isolated my problem.

Sorry if I can't help you any further, but as far as I know, I'm currently running my Live! on Win2K with a VIA chipset and it's working fine so it shouldn't be an incompatibility problem.

you need this to repair W2K with any success

the repair cannot be done from the console unless U R very skilled ( I am not)

Well, I just pulled the sound card and then turned the machine back on. Same thing, it just sits there after
I select Windows 2000 Professional. Man this is aggrivating. Thanks for the input...

It just isn't my day I guess.

I turned off the PC and removed the CD, floppy, sound and network card. It is still hanging after selecting
Windows 2000 Professional. So, I am now on to the BIOS. Does anyone know a site where I can view the BIOS settings?

When you boot from CD it will let you choose what you want to have happen. Basically if you choose recovery console there are commands you can use, but its probably not worth trying to figure out. If you choose the emergency repair it just replaces files on you HD with ones from the CD in case anything gets messed up. Unless you made an ERD I don't think there is much you can do.

I just did a repair yesterday after screwing up my 98/W2K dual boot by messing with my bios....I did a boot from the W2K CD (in your BIOS you can change the boot device to be CDROM)...I selected repair (R i think) and in the subsequent menu I let W2K check everything except the system files (middle checkbox)...after that it was all good.

You could also hit F8 and select the 'last good boot' option
