Need help with 8k7a setup

Today I setup my 8K7A mobo and 1.33 ghz Athlon T-Bird.

I followed the instructions, installed everything right, plugged in the cables and turn it on... nothing happens, I get no signal at all from the video card (GeForce DDR). I take it out, try another video card (old PCI card) no signal again.

What might be the problem?
One thing I did do is leave the jumper settings at default...

system specs are
EPoX 8K7A Motherbard
Athlon T-Bird 1.333 ghz
IBM Deskstar 40 gig HD.
512megs of PC2100 DDR memory (from Crucial)

Ok, I got it up and running.


However, I get many system restarts... and blue screens involving VxD problems.

Also, EVERY time I run the system file checker, halfway through the screen goes black and gives me a green line at the top.

Anyone know how to fix this?


Also... my CPU right now is running about 56 C
Is that a problem?
how do I fix it if it is?

just went today and bought a Sparkle 300watt ATX 2.03

VxD is ram usually, in my experience. Did you actually by one 512MB stick of ram? That is crazy expensive stuff! Anyway, the ram is probably fine, but maybe the settings are off in some way. Call crucial, see what they think, or just wait for someone more knowledged to help. 56C is waqy way way to hiot, definately reinstall the CPU/HSF with Arctic Silver2, what HS is it anyway?

If he bought Crucial memory, then he got two 256mb sticks (mad cheap but mad good stuff).

56 degrees isn't that bad, if you aren't overclocking. My 1.4 (native) gets up to 65 in a 25-28 degree ambient temp, with actic silver 2 and an alpha with Sanyo Denki fan. The heatsink is mad hot, so it's installed correctly - it's just amazing wattage being pumped out of the chip. (Panaflo Orb anyone?)

But I disgress.

Set memory timing to "auto". Set primary boot video card to AGP. Agp delay to 20h, and enable AGP/ISA aliasing.

Reformat (if you didn't reinstall windows, _shame_ on you. If you did, upgrade to Win2K). Use 12.41 drivers (WHQL certified)

Install VIA drivers (Just PCI IRQ steering, IDE and USB) and the AMD driver pack from amd.com. Reboot a bunch of times (The driver pack made windows 98 not boot on my machine the first time, but it worked fine the next time, go fig!)

Umm... RMA. I had a Soyo SY-6VBA133 that I had to RMA TWICE before I sold it off. Via southbridges are suck.

u did adjust the 133FSB jumper, right? it comes at 100FSB default.

I don't see how you can have a problem. 8K7A was my 1st build as well, and things can't be more perfect. maybe reseat the cards again. sometimes you think they've hit bottom, but they aren't.

as for ram, I haven't encountered any problems with 2sticks. u might consider reinstalling OS again, before you've wasted too much time installing other software. check to see if your AC97' is disabled if you have a soundcard.

Dinfinately reinstall windows when you install a new mainboard.

Back in the olden days (1996) when I did my first motherboard upgrade (AMD 486-40DLC to Pentium 100) I didn't reinstall Win95 (A 3 hour process at the time...the good ole days). Major issues.

I played that Rob Roy clip over and over and over....it was so cool.
