Need help with Athlon XP compatability

I want to upgrade my system with a new CPU and wait until next year to replace everything. I currently have a Epox 8KHA+ and Athlon XP 1800+. Do I need to stay with a XP CPU that is 266MHz like the 2700+ or can I get a faster 333MHz chip like the XP 2800+?? The 2800+ is actually cheaper too I would rather buy that one but will it work with my board?

Apparently, the 8KHA only has support for the 266 FSB XP processors. If that's the case, then you're limited to the 2700+.

So it seems that the 333MHz XP's don't run at 266MHz for backwards compatability? Shouldn't it work as long as it is not a Barton core?

The Mobil XP's (Athlon XP-M) are Bartons that run at 266, so get a 2400+ XP-M and that should work as long as you have the newwest BIOS

Yeah, cpu's are backward compatible. You could even put an XP 3200 in there (FSB 200/400). You'll just have to run your cpu "underclocked" at 266

The mobile a good suggest though. Run it at stock now, then up the FSB when you get a new mobo.
