Growing up, I'd ride a dirtbike in the neighbors field and had a blast doing it. I'd ride over a bumblebee nest to stir them up and take off. One time the bike sputtered and died literally right over the nest.

I could have beaten Carl Lewis or Ben Johnson (on steroids) had they lined up against me. Didn't even get stung, but had to wait until that night to go back and get the bike.

aunt and uncle recently had a beehive removed by some people with a bee farm

you can try calling any local bee farms if they would be interested in removing the hive

I worked outside for ~25 years, and I could count the times I was stung on 1 hand. Most of the times I was stung, it was stupid stuff(getting stung on the drive home, putting hand on top of truck, on top of wasp...). I've inadvertently driven stakes through yellow jacket nests, and come away unscathed. Just dumb luck I guess :^D
Yes, dumb luck.

Let's see....I once stood about 15' under a bald-faced hornet nest without knowing it was there. One stung me.

Another time, while mowing the lawn, I walked past a nest that was in a bush. My head was only about 2' from it, but it didn't really occur to me to look in that direction until I'd gone past it. I stopped and glanced back at the large object I'd seen there, and yeah, it was a large nest, about 1.5-2 basketballs in size. Oddly enough, no stings.

Also mowing, once every few years I'd walk over an underground nest. The mower annoys them, and so the welcoming party starts swarming out just as I'm walking over the entrance.

Actually...no. The gas fumes do the job without the necessity of fire. I've used it to kill yellow jacket nests when camping. Just pour a gallon of gas into the hole at night...doesn't take long to kill the entire nest...and there's no smoking crater for you to have to fix the next day. (there's a camping story behind that)
I know gasoline will kill them but it is more fun, 99.9% of the time, if you ignite it.

if they are crawling down the hole, you might want to give Diatomaceous earth a try.
food grade just to be safe.

i used to have massive ant problem right outside my house. I tried all types of sprays and insecticide... including gasoline. None worked better than Diatomaceous earth.

FYI, most cheap oil dry products are Diatomaceous earth.
Diatomaceous earth supposedly stabs the insects microscopically, sucking them dry, killing them.

Gah, That reminds me... One time I was mowing the lawn around an ungainly bush, and my technique was to ram the lawnmower under the bush to get to the grass. I did that a couple of times and noticed things flying around me. Soon after that I noticed the ~1' diameter hornet nest about chest height that I was shaking ferociously :^D My 2 year old daughter happened to be out watching me, and I told her to run, as I tore off up the road. Again, I somehow managed to not get stung, and my daughter made it to the house safely. I must have a horseshoe up my ass or something with regards to stinging critters :^D

Well I went out at night and poured a trashcan full of scalding soapy water down the hole.. then sprayed a good amount of bee poison down after it. Then I filled it with dirt and put a rock over it... was pretty uneventful I didn't see a single bee.. they all must have died in their sleep. The good news is that today there are NO BEES. Those buzzin little bitches better recognize.
