Need help with connecting a PS/2 mouse to a serial port.

Don't ask why, long story. I'm trying to connect a standard Microsoft PS/2 mouse to a serial port. I bought a PS/2 to serial port converter and hooked it up.

The problem is Windows doesn't see the mouse. Is there some configuration I have to set to get this to work?

I've tried setting the com port to 2,3, and 4. The irq is listed at 3 and not shared with any other device.

I've even tried installing the Intellipoint software, hoping it would somehow scan the serial port and detect it.

So far no luck. Please help.

BTW, I'm trying to do this under WinME on an old Intel LX motherboard and a PII 266.

Make sure the serial port is enabled in BIOS -- many times it isn't by default because it's hardly ever used.

double check your bios to make sure the serial ports are enabled

I had the same problem, this may sound wierd but ive been told that those ps/2 to serial converters are picky. If you buy the mouse and jack seperatly. I had a mouse and wanted to hook it up to a laptop that didn't have a ps2 jack on it. After I was told that, I went and bought a cheap $10 mouse at best buy that came with its own serial port connector and it worked just fine.

Thanks for the reply's. The serial port is enabled in the bios. It's listed in the device manager.

Perhaps it is a picky connector and it doesn't like the mouse. If it was working, wouldn't Windows automatically detect the mouse and search for drivers?

Like the others said make sure the serial port is enabled in bios and then
try a standard serial mouse and get it working first.Then try the PS2 with
the converter.If both are good it sould then work.
