Hey guys hope everyone had a great holiday season!

I drove a 04 Civic before and it had MUCH larger speakers than my current 07 Civic. I do prefer my current car's audio system because the highs are WAY clearer. The only thing lacking is the low end. I'm looking at adding a 10 inch sub to my car
I would prefer it to be sealed. I currently live in south Georgia where I can't get to many fancy places to test drive speakers out. So I'll have to trust you guys

I HATE how aftermarket head units look so I would like to keep the stock one. I understand I'll be using a Line-Out Converter off of my back speakers.

Budget: $150 I know tight :\
My boss at work has a line-Out Converter for me if the amp I get doesn't have one. So I'm looking for recommendations for a sub, box, and amp.
Also I'm open to getting a 12 vs 10.

Music I listen to: Tool, Apocalyptica, hip hop and techno/trance.

I was planing on running all the wires to the side of my trunk and placing jacks for power and audio there and having the amp mounted to the box. I really want the subwoofer to be removable. Any tips on how to do this?

Thanks for any help!

Moved to AV&HT at request from the OP.

Wow that looks slick! Too bad they are super expensive :\

Aside from the $600+ price tag and he would still need to buy a amp I think this a great solution.

Unfortunately he only has a $150 budget.

For $150 - I'd buy used. That's a super tight budget to get anything of quality and your gonna need a wiring kit as well.

Oh I forgot to say I have a 4 gauge wire kit
Also forgot to ask a couple of things: If I plan on using the stock HU how do I have the amp turn on automatically?

With used stuff where should I look? What names/ brands / models should I be looking for?

Is it generally cheaper to build a box or buy?

If a sub says 4 Ohms 300 Watts RMS and 1200 Watts PEAK does that mean I need a 300 - 350 watt amp?

Thanks for helping a n00b !

Would it be easier to buy new if I bumped my budget to $180 - $200 max?

Here's my recommendation for an el-cheapo car subwoofer. Don't be afraid of buying generic - that woofer might look like junk, but the money saved on the pressed frame and paper cone was instead spent on a high-quality motor.

1. Dayton DCS255 classic series 10" woofer - $70
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-202

2. Goldwood TR10S 10" MDF box - $21
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-642

3. 10" of 2" PVC pipe - about $4.

Drill a hole in the side of the box, add the port tube, add the woofer, and you're set. Don't change ANY of the parameters above - a different box, woofer, or port tube will throw the whole thing off.

Incidentally, Parts Express offers free shipping on orders of $100 or more.

well i recommended the stealth box knowing the price tag. I was thinking you could do like cheese said and just build it yourself with parts that fit your budget.

I'd post this on an audio forum...in general under $200 is going to be rough for anything really worth it IMHO.

If you DIY even, wood is going to run probably $20-30 alone. Whatever woofer you want probably at least $50-75 pushing it and then an amp for the main components. You will need RCA's and/or a way to get it to talk to your reciever.

On a Civic board I am sure you can find one someone is upgrading from esp this time of year.

Thanks! I would really like to build this in the next week or two (I start a new job ) and that box is out of stock
Also everyone i'v been talking to has been recommending a sealed box... would that be a bad idea?

Well I'm using a Line out converter to get audio and I figured out what wire to tap to use as a the remote wire.

Now I need an amp recommendation

Oh I'll PM a mod to have this thread moved

Thanks everyone!

So I got a deal from a friend: A new Infinity Reference 1060w 12-Inch + Sealed Box + Line out converter + wire kit + Installation from a friend who worked for a car audio shop. All for about $80

Should I bit? I would have $70 for an amp

He also has a new Pioneer GM-5400T which doesn't need the line out converter for $60 $140 installed seems fair? He has receipts for the sub and amp plus I'v known the guy for a while and I trust him

Sealed box won't be as 'low' as a ported, but that is preference.

That speaker is decent but not popular, it can be had for about $60 shipped from amazon currently.

However all done at $80 installed is a decent deal, plus you can get help if problems arise from someone that knows.

The T3002 by Rockford Fosgate got recommended a lot at the $100 and less price off ebay. It looks like it would give you 200W into 1 channel bridged at 4 ohms.

It's capable to 2 ohms easy so if you find a dual voice coil driver later on you can increase power a lot.

The best deals on amps at that price range is going to be used.
