Need help with my 3700+

Currently i have a 3700+ CFBOX stepping (Toledo) that is not overclocked, but is running at 46-47C idle (0-10% cpu usage) according to Core Temp. Under full load it can reach all the way up to 56-57C. I am using stock cooling btw with AS5 instead of the compound AMD provided. Should i be concerned and contact AMD?

Actually I'm not an expert too, but it seems way too high. My 3700+ San Diego is running 3GHz (300x10) at 25C idle - granted I have a beefy XP-120 for heatsink
I recommend to check your heatsink - maybe is not making a good contact with the CPU?

Try remounting your heatsink.
If that doesn't help my guess would be a bad IHS mount. Those temps are within spec but are pretty high. Only thing is I don't know how well the stock cooler works on those, my old 3700+ (San Diego) was on a non-stock cooler from day 1.

well, i just removed my hsf, applied new thermal paste and put it back on...but its still running at 42-43C idle...might be a faulty HSF.

There's no such thing as a faulty HSF. Try running your fan at full speed. Most BIOS's these days have temperature controlled fan speeds, that are always set way too slow.

My 3700 SD is clocked @ 2.63 and Idles 28c and load never reaches 40c, Prime stable for 8 hours. What motherboard do you have. If its DFI they are known to give wrong temps. Try using a digital doc or something else with temp probes to put on the chip to get a more acurate reading.
