Need help with my TEAC 16x burner

I got the compusa TEAC 16x burner at compusa for 99 bucks. It writes any cdrs and the cdrw it came with it fine. But when i try writing on some old cdrw from smart and friendly and some old cdrw that came with my old burner a hp 4x2x24x cd writer it keeps saying write protected or unrecognized disc. I formatted the disc, and no problems arise when formating. Can anyone tell me why this is happening ? I'm using a roxio basic easy cd creator

I tried to use a CDRW that was formatted with DirectCD with InCD (Nero). Even after I formatted with InCD (in which it gave me no errors), it wouldn't write to the disc. It couldn't do anything with the disc. So if you formatted the disc with something other than DirectCD, it probably becomes unusable under a different packet-writing software (I'm guessing though).

My old software was adaptec easy cd creator deluxe 4. My new software is roxio easy cd creator 5 basic. I figured they would be compatible since they are both easy cd creators. Oh well thanks for the response.

Try doing a full erase first, then reformat.
