Hey guys! I currently own a low end pc and my recently my GeForce 210 stopped working for some reason. My processor is an amd athlon 64 x2 4800+ dual core processor and I have 3 gb of ram.I have a 400W power supply. Now I need a graphic card but I don't intend to change the rest of the pc.Since I have a relatively bad pc I scared that there will be a bottle neck if I get a new graphic card.So I need a graphic card that probably won't get bottle necked by the processor or ram.

Thanks In Advance!^_^

Go used GTX 460, HD7770, HD6850. All those will be bottlenecked anyway. You really ought to start thinking about an all new build because even a Core 2 Duo E6400 bottlenecked a GTX460 1GN in games and that CPU is faster than yours.

Do you need it to play games or just to drive the display? If the latter, just get GT210 again, or AMD HD6450 if you're pissed about Nvidia breaking down.

For gaming, get something like GT640/HD6670 or GTX 650/R7 250. Or get a more powerful card in preparation of a future fullscale upgrade.

I assume you are interested in gaming. If so a used card like the 9800GT is a good match for that CPU. I was recently running an E4500 which is about equal to your CPU with a 9800 GT and could play most games at 900p at med to low settings. Even then the CPU was starting to limit in certain games. The cards Russian suggested would also be good choices depending on price, but even a less powerful card like the 9800GT would be a match for that CPU. And as he also said, no matter what gpu you get, if you want to play the latest demanding and future games, you will need a full upgrade.

Some of the above mentioned cards aren't available in my country (India)So it would be much appriated if you guys could gimme the name of the cards from the following website: www.flipkart.com .(PS:It should not be bottlenecked )

Not his fault since your pc is that slow and old. Just about any recent low end card would bottleneck your A64x2. Get an r7 240 if its compatible with your pc.

Well thats the issue..I dont know what's compatible and what's not..and I also dont know what's gonna work fine and what's gonna get bottlenecked....and also im not going to be getting or building a new rig any time soon , so all I need now is a graphic card that will work fine on my current setup. .and yes I am aware that my PC is an antique. .

What's the max amount you're willing to spend ? Depending on your budget I guess you should get an R7 240 or R7 250 with a GB of GDDR5 mem, also if you have a six pin power connector you can get a 250x which is roughly twice as fast as the R7 240.

Wel im willing to spend about 5-6k INR .But dude, are you sure an R7 240/250 wont get bottlenecked? From what I've seen its a pretty sweet card and is usually paired with a i5....Well if I buy an R7 240 im sure as hell it will be bottlenecked

Dunno where did you hear that an i5 gets paired with these bottom rung R7's but that's not true, the Radeon R9's & GTX 760 (or above) are a perfect match for the i5. The R7 240 & 250(x) are on the low(er) end of GPU performance bracket, only their DDR3 versions & some passively cooled cards come lower. So yeah you'll be fine with'em till the time you decide to upgrade the rest of your system.

You sure there wont be a bottleneck mate?
Nope pretty sure the athlon x2 won't be a major bottleneck in your case, cause let's face it anything lower & you'll be simply wasting your money & AFAIK these are the lowest rung GPU's that come with a GDDR5 memory option & you certainly wouldn't wanna get a DDR3 GPU especially if you can afford the GDDR5 one.

Sounds like you already know your answer before you asked. There is no getting around that CPU of yours. You should probably save a bit more and get a full system upgrade instead of putting lipstick on a pig (IMO)

I kinda searched around a bit and I have finalized my list..I'm either gonna get a nvidia gt610 2 gb syringe edition or a gt630 1 gb both of which are are ddr3.Are these cards good? Also are there any other better-ish cards at the same price? And finally if if put one of these two on pc what would be the FPS I would get?I usually play games at 1024x768 at mid-low settings ( I know it's really low ) I usually play Blacklight retribution,Tom clancy's Splinter cell blacklist, smite, league of legends,ac-3,4,etc. 3 gigs of ram btw..

Yeah I know my PC sucks.. But I'm not in a position to buy a new one and I'm also not willing to save up for a new one..

As I said anything other than a GDDR5 option, since you can afford one, is a waste of money as for the rest I think you have plenty of options to choose from the ones listed here in this thread. If you wanna compare raw specs then go to ~

The R7 240 is only a tad faster than the 8800 GTX which came out in the Athlon X2 days. (I had a 8800GTS with my X2 5200+). Your CPU will not be a major bottleneck.
In the games where you are CPU limited, that just means you get to crank AA.

Will it be a waste of money because it is slow/old or will it be a waste of money because of a bottleneck? And also what about the FPS mate?

The GT610 is less than half the card of a GT620. It's a HTPC card, not a gaming card. As for the GT630, you're looking at DDR3 ones when for RS380 more you can have a R7 240 which is faster than the GDDR5 GT630.
