Need help with RAID, sorta...

I bought myself a raid capable motherboard , but not for raid persay. I was told that you can use the 2 extra IDE chains to add extra devices. ie. Have Zip disk, super disk, 2 HD, 2+ cd roms on the same system.

Well my current setup is this.
Iwill xp333-r motherboard
Athlon xp 1900+

I have 2 HD's connected to IDE1 2 CD's connected to IDE2 and 1 zip disk connected to one of the raid connectors.

Everything works except the Zip disk, I cannot use it in windows. it doesnt show up as a device. It does however list itself during startup when the raid bios utility starts.

Am i fooked, was i lied too? or is there some way to get it to recognize in windows??

I thought only hard drives worked on the raid channels.

I'm not sure. During bootup. it recognizes it and lists it as Iomega Zip 100...

According to the webpage, http://www.iwill.net/products/spec.asp?ModelName=XP333-R&SupportID=, you have the HighPoint HPT372 IDE-RAID controller.

I know that the Promise controller will let you switch from RAID drivers in the OS to simple IDE drivers. However, I do not see anything anywhere that will let you do anything similar. I have the HPT370 chip in my mobo and cannot use a ZIP with it. Someone correct me if I am wrong here...

Ok, heres a question. .. If i plug my 2 CD's, a Superdisk and a Zip to the 2 IDE chains, can i plug my 2 HD into a RAID connector and use all my devices that way? will the raid HD's show up under windows??

That is the ideal way to setup your drives. Place the HDs each set as master on the RAID controller, and the others to the IDE. Your HDs will be detected.
