Need Help with Ram purchase for IS7-G

I'm looking to purchase this board soon to build my new system. Currently, I have a 2.0AGhz 400Mhz FSB cpu and I would like to use it in the new board until the Prescott comes out. At that time, I will get one of those and slap it in the Springdale.

Can someone please confirm for me that:
1. There is currently no i875 board available that will allow a 400Mhz FSB cpu no matter what DDR memory you throw at it.

2. The DDR I purchase until I get the 800Mhz FSB Prescott has to be PC2100 (266mhz)

The reason I ask #2 is I would like to go ahead and get the PC3200 (400Mhz) memory if I can throttle it down for the 400Mhz cpu I currently have. This way I wouldn't need to purchase additional memory when that time comes.

"when the time comes" ~ todays memory will be outdated with better stuff so dont bother "buying for the future" now

(especially if youre thinking of paying top dollar for XMS)

Some of the boards say they don't support "A" chips, but if they have an option to run 100FSB, they'll work fine.


And memory prices drop a lot. If you know what FSB you'll be running, then get the lowest speed ram that fits your needs now and upgrade when Prescott comes out. By the time Prescott is out, we'll have cheap PC4000 or more...

I read that neither the P4C800 or IS7-G use CSA Gb Lan anyway so there probably isn't a difference here.

But does this mean that I could get an Asus P4C800, or the other 875 boards that support 400Mhz FSB, instead of the IS7-G and still be able to use an "A" chip with it?

As long as it's a northwood cpu you can use them in a springdale or canterwood boards.

Yeah, any Northwood should work fine. Your 2.0A is basically the same thing as a 2.66B (same multiplier)...

One more question, I promise, about my original post. If I go ahead and get the p4c800, can I use the PC3200 ddr or do I have to go with PC2100, while using the "A" chip?

Anyone know what the highest speed ddr I can use with a 2.0A 400Mhz FSB processor in a Asus P4C800?
