Ok, I'm a relative newbie around here, I've only been cracking for a couple days. I've got a PII 450, PII 266, P166, and I just added another PII 450.

However, I've also got an AIX machine here at work that no one uses. It's an IBM RS6000 with two PPC604e's running at 233Mhz. I really would like some SMP lovin with RC5 on this machine but I get a "Segmentation Error, Core Dump" right after it checks the in and out boxes.
Does anybody know why this would happen? I'm using the latest client (v2.8). Thanks!

Perhaps you can get an older client working? I normally find a version I like and stick with it unless the cores were reoptimized

AmigaMan,
Make sure you have the correct client version for your OS.
http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.html#aix
The note under the current version states it doesn't handle SMP:
SMP support not enabled. Load one client for each cpu

I know there are some special considerations on loading 2 clients, but I do not know what they are.

Can someone else help with loading clients?

Ray, I thought that notice was for the versions below it, not the client for AIX4.1. I'll try the -numcpu flag and see if that works.

Also, I did notice that the core selection was different for AIX than my NT boxes. I have the "lintilla" and "allitnil" cores available. On NT I have "jasonp P5/MMX", "RG class 3/6", and a couple more...

And changing the -numcpu to equal 1 doesn't help. I still get a Segmentation Fault (coredump).

Please help me...I want to Thrash the /.

Thanks, Ben

Ok, well I found out I was using the -numcpu flag wrong. I put a zero in and it works, albeit single-threadedly. But a single thread is better than no thread!!!

Thanks all for the help.

One more machine assimilated, resistance is futile!

AmigaMan-

I have no experience with your OS, but generally people have had good success running non-SMP capable distributed computing clients by installing multiple identical directories and executing the programs manually. If you are the only user this may work out OK.

Hope this helps and Welcome to TA!
