Need help with unusual virus.

I have a computer with a computer virus.

The computer will not allow me to install certain software (such as Avast) and will not allow me to run Hijackthis (not even in Safemode). If I try to google "antivirus" or "hijackthis" or related terms from this computer, the browser immediately closes itself. If I try to google terms not related to adware/spyware/virus, the browser works fine. I have been able to install several other products such as Windows Defender, AVG antivirus, a2 free, spybot, adaware, spysweeper, pest patrol, etc... but every one of these programs says my computer is clean! CWshredder and the mini smartsearch tool tells me the computer is clean. I am out of ideas.... If only I could get Hijackthis to run, I think I would see the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Try renaming hijackthis.exe to something random like virusBgon.exe and running it in Safe Mode again. Schadenfroh also has a nifty script-driven thingie in this thread that could be worth a try, too.

If you haven't done so already, some rootkit scanners might help begin the cleaning process. Panda AntiRootkit is free and very easy to use.

GMER is another anti-rootkit program, and it has some advanced features you might need. You can simply start it and click "Scan", but if you want to kill something manually, you can also click here and then click here to browse the file system with GMER's own browser. And there are other features as well.

Also note GMER's "Safe..." button. You can boot in GMER Safe Mode if Windows Safe Mode is compromised.

edit: by the way, you might try uninstalling AVG and installing a 30-day trial of Kaspersky AntiVirus 7, if you can get it to install. If it will install, go to its Settings panel, down to Threats & Exclusions, and enable the Riskware checkbox, then go back to the top of the Settings tree and set each module to MAXIMUM detection. Furthermore, in the File Anti-Virus panel, click "Customize," hit the "Heuristic analyzer" tab, and enable the heuristic analyzer at Detail (maximum) level. Also do this down in the Scan > My Computer section. Then run a full Scan My Computer.

AntiVir is another antivirus with notable detection rates, particularly if you enter its Configuration panel, enable Expert Mode, and then enable the heuristics at maximum level for both the real-time and on-demand scanning. If you can get it to install, it would also be worth a go once Kaspersky is done and uninstalled (obviously, don't install both at once!).

1. go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and have if scan all files and drives on your pc. post what it finds.

2. then go to http://ultimatebootcd.com and get the iso, burn it to a cd and reboot with said cd. then from the menu choose memtest86+ run that for 6 hours and post the results. then run stresscpu for 6 hours and post the results.

3. then go to http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php and install PC Wizard and post the temp and voltage screenshot.
