Need Help Wtih RJ-45...

Hello all,
I am looking around in many places for a RJ-45 splitter for my network. I need a thing-a-majic that will let me plug one of my ethernet (rj45) cables into it and give me 2 ports to plug in stuff.

Does this exist and will my network still run at 100mbps??

So your plugging 2 devices into a hub, the single port side of this jig is for the hub connection (just getting a picture here).

Don't know if that will work or not, never tried that or read anything that said. I would have to look at what a hub really does with traffic. Maybe if you used the uplink port...

Will that work? Anyone?

If it did work your answer to the second question would be if both devices are sending/receiving traffic you won't get full bandwidth for either device. If one device is sending/receiving no traffic you will (or should).

Try Radio Shack is my best suggestion.

I found a belkin dealie, Belkin RJ45 UTP Splitter , at 4sure kinda expensive but might do the job, is 10baseT the same thing as my 100mbps network? or will stuff run difffferently cuz of it?...thanx

The cable splitters general allow you to run two devices over one piece of UTP but you then need to re-split at the other end and plug in to two Hub ports (crude diagram below).

PC \ / Hub Port
---------UTP----------
PC / \ Hub Port

As 10Mb or 100Mb only use two of the pairs in the cable, the splitters swich one lot of data on to the unused two pairs whilst leaving the first one on the original pairs.

If you want to plug two PCs in to a single Hub port then you need another hub.

Ah, .................................. NO. 10 Base T is 10 Mbps, 100BaseT is 100Mbps.

Cool device, but I could not find any more information on Balkin's site.
I would think that you would need a pair.
If so, a hub or switch would be a better choice.

If you chose to use a 10 MB part in a 100 MB network, it may work, but give you problems, drop packets, and in general be the south end of the north bound horse.

Just my opinion.

This does not add ports or enable to put more computers on a Hub/Switch.

In case you have a two computers in a room, and only one cable lead to the room you can plug one device at the end, and then plug the two computers to it.

On the other end before the Hub, you have to put a second device the end of the CAT5 cable, and from it, two short patches to the Hub.

Since it cost $20 for two pieces you better off buying a Hub, and use it as a repeater in the second room.

These devices similar to coupler are not a good idea to be used.
