Need info on CD burners

I desperately need a new burner but I don't want to fork over a lot for the new 16x drives. The info I am looking for is a list of manufacturers that sell their drives under other brand names. I had my eye on the Plextor 12/10/32 but I heard that the Creative Labs 12/10/32 is just the same drive with a lower price. I don't want to take the chance and flash the firmware with Plextor drivers only to find out that it isn't. If anyone has info about this or can point me to a website, it would be greatly appreciated.

the TDK 12/10/32 is the same drive as the Plextor, and may be cheaper too. I don't know about the Creative drive though...
