Need Input, Strange OC'ng situation with my K8N Neo4 Platinum

Just popped in my new Opteron 165 into my system which includes the following.

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (Bios 1b)
Opteron 165 (default voltage)
1gig (2x512MB Dual Channel) Platinum Memory
Seagate 80gig 7200.7 Hard Drive
Liteon DVD-rom drive
BenQ 16x DVDr
ATI 2meg Rage Pro PCI (!!!)
SilenX 400W PSU
Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Heatsink/Fan

I have this strange problem. reduced my HTT multiplier to 4x, and set FSB to 250Mhz with Ram at 166MHz. Cpu speed reported as 2250Mhz, ram 415Mhz effective, anf HT at 1Ghz.

My ram will not do much more than it is right now, at least not without playing with timings which I'm not skilled at yet. I reduced my ram speed to 133Mhz to try and push my cpu speed (FSB) higher while reducing my HTT multiplier to 3x so it wouldn't be an issue in the overclock.

Seems even if I leave everything alone, setting my ram to 133Mhz results in a system that won't boot!!! Now this is strange. Even without moving any other setting and just dropping my ram speed form 166 to 133 results in no joy when setting it back to 166Mhz results in a stable syste, (Prime95 dual for 2-3+hours)!

I am presently using a cheap ATI Rage Pro PCI card untill my more beefy x800GTO2 (Unlocked and overclocked to PE speeds 100% stable) comes in.

What could be wrong??? Is there an issue withthe 1b bios release possibly??

Now another strange situation has popped up. My audio no longer works. i saw some posts on the MSI forum saying that bios 1b caused a few people to lose audio. Any info would be much appreciated.

Try an older BIOS... Your Opteron may not be recognised correctly anymore, but it may solve the DDR and sound issue... I run version 1.9, and it hasn't given me any complaints... Maximum HTT is 322MHz with a Venice 3000+...

HHHmmm, I'm a little uncomfortable with this even though I do appreciate any reply this thread gets. The whole Idea of bios 1b was to have solid dual core support. When you say not recognized anymore what exactly do you mean? What would I lose from going to bios 1.9??

You're right, version 1.B was the one meant for dual cores, but I haven't tested it myself, so I don't know if it's flaky or not... There are, however, people who refuse to go past version 1.6 (because they suck according to 'em) and that use dual cores...

There is an official MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum on AT... Maybe you can find there what you're looking for... Hope it gets solved...

Thanks for the input. I too would go back to 1.6 if my dual core cpu was fully recognized. Much appreciated.
