need more info on the ecs k7s5a b4 i attempt to take it on

I just saw in my local frys ad one day sale a athlon xp 1800+ oem cpu + ecs k7s5a mobie combo. I am really interested in getting it since i'm still a via kt 133 + tbird + sdram user. Just to let u know, i overclock my computers to the max, up until where it doesn't get stable, but i really don't care about spending lots of money just to get a good overclock. I know the ecs mobo is not an overclocker's dream, but i do know those mods and bios to make it overclock to some degree. So, i'm asking expierenced k7s5a owners (what am i talking about, all k7s5a owners havta be expirenced to take this mother on) what type of overclocking options there are (including 3rd party bioses and ez to do mods). I hope to get my xp to 2000+ at least using multipliers, and add a little fsb overclocking to that. My geforce 3 ti200 at ti500 speeds would definately benefit with this mobo. Thanks.

as you said... the ecs is not an overclockers dream

you can get a hacked bios that has adjustment for the fsb... but as far as i know you dont have any option to adjust the multiplier (which is very important to me)

You can find all the info from the "experienced" K7S5A users on overclocking that board at this site. If the link doesn't take you to the overclocking page, just go to this page and navigate to the FAQ's then the overclocking section.
There are some mods that can be done for the multiplier settings. How difficult they are depends on your experience. I have not personally tried them. There are great links to ways to do them on that site though. Remember the first rule with that board is getting a good quality, AMD approved for your cpu, Power Supply. Without that; you will not have much luck.

Two advice:

(1) Get the version with LAN.
(2) By all means use the latest BIOS (2002/03/25 at least) ... if ECS don't get it out the door soon, use the one from the PC-Chips site at www.pcchips.com.tw - M830 or M830LR is the same product, and there the BIOS is released already.

it's a good mobo in stability and performance, overclock is possible with some tweaking and modified BIOS. Believe it or not, mine works flawlessly even without one capasitor on the board (it burnt out, so there are only 2 pins left, I took out the cilinder/capasitor head). Good Luck

Well i miss the deal, i geuss the sis 735 is not the way to go for me since i am looking more for a northwood and sis 645 or a future thoroughbred. Thanks for the tips anyways.
