Need new 8 port switch

Hey need to buy a new 8 port gigabyte switch. Looking at these 2

my pcs are just used for internet surfing and blu ray streaming. Any suggestions? Using Fios with Moca adapters

I have the Trendnet for few years working out in a Shed in harsh weather condition, it keeps producing Giga traffic and never gets tired.

Depending on your specific environment you can save few $$ and use the plastic version.

Just get the cheapest switch available. All consumer grade switches basically house the same chipset. Some may have a small egress buffer available for congestion control, but that really won't matter for consumer applications.

I'll also recommend that metal TrendNet GigE switch.

Go netgear. Trendnet has notorious problems with how they do power saving on each jack. I've had maybe 3 fail, by fail i mean random jacks will quit working. Apparently the power saving they use to shut them off is sensitive to electrical changes. Power goes out, whatever jack is plugged in will die.

Never had any issue with netgear ones.

I've had the opposite experience. My TrendNet (NON-"GreenNet") gigabit switch was flawless for five years, until a power glitch took it out. OTOH, I had a 5-port Netgear gigabit switch (in a plastic case), under full load for a while, and it constantly need to be reset.

I've had the same experience with the trendys and netgears VL. I just can't understand why my boss has a hard on for netgear routers especially.

I got the TrendNet with the metal housing. Mine has an internal power supply so no brick with a skinny power wire. It has a physical power rocker switch. Solidly built.

I have not had good luck with netgear stuff. Routers, nics, switches, all have given me weird issues.

I have a trend net green switch that works great.

So I guess it's a crap shoot

Trendnet GREENNet switch operates very cool and works wonder for me for several years now.

And same here, Netgear does not impress me at all.

I also have had no problems with Trendnet switches - and I have 4 or 5 of 'em located around the house. Netgear and D-Link, however, gave me nothing but trouble even when used only with other same-brand switches. Not exactly a *huge* sample size here, I realize, but it's enough to keep me away from Netgear or D-Link consumer switches in the future.
