I think my energizers and/or the charger are shot. I can only get about 5 minutes of use out of my n80 with all manual settings. These are 2500mah batteries only a couple years old, I think they're just old or burned up or something.

Someone recommend me a new set of nimh batteries and a charger that are more functional than my energizer paperweight.

I would also like to know. I just got a Kodak Z1275. When recording 720p video, it really, really eats up batteries quickly.

Eneloops and/or Rayovac Hybrids. Both use the same technology but you can buy the Rayovacs at Walmart. They do not suffer the same power drain issues as traditional NiMH when they sit idle for a few months. I love my Hybrids.

Maha / Powerex makes good chargers. There's another one out there that is really nice (and expensive) but I forget the name. I would recommend against super quick chargers because they may decrease the life of the battery. My Maha charges in about 2 hours and that's good enough for me, even on road trips while I'm driving and it's charging in my car.

The best is Sanyo Eneloop. Unlike others, those batteries only loose a bit of thier energy while idle and they just work great and lasts longer.

About chargers, get a one that has funtions: 1. battery refresh (This refreshes batteries that suffer from memory effects. This, of course, does not fully refreshes batteries.)
2. drain and charge (Even if your camera says batteries are out of power, there still is pleanty of power left. When they get charged in that state, it causes the memory effect and reduces the power of batteries)

No, the OP is using an N80, which is a Nikon film camera. Although, with the optional grip for the D80, the option may be there to use AA batteries. I haven't checked that out.

Wouldn't know. My N80 does with a battery pack.

EDIT - tdawg beat me to it I'm old school, mainly because I can't afford a dslr. I have an old AI 50/1.4 lens that the n80 and most dslrs won't meter with, which is a bummer cuz it's a great lens.

I think I'm going to get a set of those rayovac hybrids.. they look like they'll fit the bill

They'll be in the battery section around the photo section.

another vote for maha - they work superbly for me. I'm averaging 350-450 shots per set of batteries with image stabilization turned on.

The Great Battery Shootout may be a couple years old, but it has plenty of excellent information about rechargeable batteries, particularly the AA batteries.

One thing to note: certain combinations of brands of batteries and chargers work better than other combinations. So, the best charger for one brand my not produce optimal results for another brand of battery.

And yet another vote for Maha. That recharger does a lot - the recycle mode takes a while, but the batteries last longer that way. (All0w at least 8 hours.)
