I am currently upgrading my computer. I just got a Q9550 and am looking for a decent motherboard. The search for the correct motherboard from the start is hard, there is little starting points, when one has been away from the market for a year. A few key things I am looking for are

1) No SLI (an SLI board that matches my wants and needs is ok as well if something REALLY stands out in your mind).
2) Solid OC
3) Lotsa cool features (whatever this means, heh, I just like bells and whistles, but will sacrifice for a solid board.)

The current graphics card is 8800, but will upgrade to a 280 asap. (unless someone has another suggestion)

My current board and is listed on my outdated signature.

Thanks in advance.

Hi boglwe. I remember you when you build that system -- getting the upgrade itch already??

Just curious, won't your existing mobo run the Q9550 with a bios update? Could save you some money.

In any event, two items to consider if you're dead set on a new board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16813138118R

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...2E16813128358&Tpk=ud3p

FYI, the UD3P has two PCIe 2.0 slots (1 at 16x, the other at 8x) but is only ~ $10 more than the UD3R which has only 1 PCIe slot. They are very similar boards except for a few features. Your call. A friend of mine has that Biostar board and loves it, though I don't personally have any experience with that company (open box is a good deal. It's a $160 mobo new).

Yea go for the Gigabyte UD3P. It has copper in the motherboard PCB. I have this board and it runs REALLY cool for being passive. Has all the options you could ever want. And has a very extensive bios.

Wait, How do yall like the MSI P45 Neo? I have a brand new one sitting in front of me, should I just use that and spend the money on a power Supply?

Either way the P45 chipset is a great chipset and a great overclocking chipset to boot.

Personally I prefer Asus for my mobo's. If you want I can suggest a few.

Your PSU is fantastic and more than adequate for your components. I have the same one, FYI.

I would also love to hear about those Asus boards, I do love Asus.

And yes, the Q9550 is an amazing chip. I posted a screen shots of an oC with temps barely going over 45c.

If you don't ever plan on running SLI than an Intel chipset is best. Only because you are running a Nvidia card.

The best option IMO would be a P45 chipset. I prefer Asus for my mainboard.

Just check this out
