Need new gigbit switch

I am looking for a new gigabit switch for my home network. The switch needs to have minimum of 24 ports and they should all be gig. I would like it to be able to handle VLAN's and possible have some layer 3 capabilities and do jumbo frames. Yes, I know I am asking for a lot, but this is not your average home network

I have been looking at the HP switches because the prices are reasonable for what i am looking for. Does anyone have any positive or negative info about the HP ProCurve 2824 Switch? That seems to have the features I want at a reasonable price. I would love to buy a Cisco switch, but pricing is really high for what I am looking for.

i have herd good things about the procurve, with them you get alot of features for the money.

Procurve are great for small home network, the cisco is my pick but you are correct in it being fairly pricey for a home network

IIRC the 2824 is EOL and the 2810-24g replaces it, however the 2810 doesn't support all of the L3 features the 2824 supports like inter-vlan routing.

I've been running a 2810-24g and a 1400-24g side by side for a while now and I've had no issues, great switches for the price IMO.

I did forget one thing, my rack depth can only hold a switch ten or so inches deep. That will narrow my choices a lot and most likely push me away from the layer 3 switches. I found a current model HP 1810G-24 for a good price. That looks like everything I want minus the layer 3, though it is new and not used, which is great!

I recently purchased two 1810G-24 switches and am very happy with them. I'm not sure if they will do everything that you listed in your original post but they are very solid and easy to configure. Just make sure you upgrade the firmware as soon as you get them. One of mine had a VERY old firmware version on it...

Also, the best price I was able to find while shopping for mine was from buy.com through Amazon.
