Need new monitor (gaming)

First of all, I live in Sweden so don't tease me with uber offers from NewEgg or whatever.

My AOC 19" from 2001 is starting to behave weirdly. I'll need to replace it. I've preferred CRT's so far. Once you lug the heavy bastard to its place, I find the clarity and more importantly speed (0 latency) is good for gaming.

But I might need to consider LCD's. I am a newb when it comes to LCD's. I know I want one that can handle a range of resolutions well, from 320x200 for old games to 1280x960 (I prefer 4:3 ratio) for newer ones. Low latency is a requirement. What's the best reputable model/manufacturer/line for gaming? Size could be 19-21" probably. Nothing too expensive, but solid and good for gaming.

Some people claim that CRT's are entirely obsolete for gaming while other posts have claimed they still hold the crown due to zero latency, no native resolution limitations and sharper image quality.

I'm still using CRT but then I work in graphics and I need true blacks and also different resolutions.
My biggest gripe with LCD is the native resolutions.
If you still want a LCD I'm sure someone on here can recommend one.
If you want a CRT you can still find some great ones, either used or new.
I like the IBM P260 monitors . Great if you can find one that you can pickup versus ship as they are very heavy.

"Great if you can find one that you can pickup versus ship as they are very heavy."

Are you implying damage from shipping is common with CRT's?

Also, can I get a review of some of these claims made by other posters:

"Problem is you almost can't find CRTs anymore. But the fact is a CRT is far superior in performance and image quality then any LCD or Plasma screen ever made. Typically an LCD with a 5ms response time or lower is best suited for gaming. But if you can find a CRT and don't mind the weight and bulk then i say go for the CRT."

"CRTs a dead technology. They use more power, generate more heat and weigh 5x as much as an identically-sized LCD screen."

"any crt you buy now for cheap will be cheap tat that won't have the supposed advantage of crt. and professional ones will cost a fortune. crt is no longer competitive in any way."

"plus the supposed superiority is not really there in reality. the picture quality of modern lcds is pretty incredible, and you aren't going to get a 24 crt at a decent price these days. let alone a 30. any crts left are low end junk, any medium range consumer units had their factories close down long ago. and well that was years ago, by now crts are gone from most stores, even at the super low end. and no, used is not good for crt, they fade."

CRT's bulky but still best, CRT's obsolete in every way, CRT's only good if you buy an expensive one, CRT's have crisper images and better response time, which is it?

CRT are going to have the best response times, there is no doubt of that, and its not going to get better for lcd there anytime soon, its just part of the CRT tech.
CRT do use more power and generate more heat.
CRT are cost effective. You can buy an IBM p260 for $140.00 that no lcd can touch in quality without paying about 5 times more.
The IBM P260 and its variants are professional monitors designed for CAD work thats the reason so many CAD computer suppliers have them in stock still.
There are some great LCD out there, but you will have to pay quite a bit more to match a 21" trinitron.
Plus I really like not being stuck in a native resolution.

The reason I said pickup one versus ship is because the shipping cost can be as much as the monitor cost.

Search for trinitron and you can find them everywhere, even ebay

Can't find any that ship to Sweden, nor any dealers that sell them here. Are there any other brands you'd recommend? This is a list of the 19" I can find online, the 21" were too expensive: http://www.pricerunner.se/cl/2...F%f6r+Datorn&a_614=CRT

It's in Swedish but the model names are there.

If I decide to go LCD, which brand and model should I look for? I got some ear issues so I'm considering switching over to LCD to see if it makes a difference. I'd be OK with 19" if the model is reliable, low latency etc.
