A few weeks ago I was playing Far Cry hardcore for hours on end and I kept on smelling a subtle burning plastic odor. Soon after or around then I got a new a7n8x-e deluxe just for fun, but now Far Cry, or any graphics intensive game, they'll just crash to the desktop, freeze and do vpu recover, or totally restart the whole system. My Digi Doc shows my voltages as super off spec. 4.7v and 12.8v. I was told not to take these readings as accurate, but they're disconcerting. It looks like my videocard is the weakest link here. at 1.5v crashes happen very often. when I increase the voltage to 1.7 I can play for about 15-20 mins. Could my card be failing due to fluxing voltage? It does get a 12v input and if it isn't getting enough juice there's no reason why it should not be failing right? I thought the failure might have been due to the xt mod, stock cooling still on, but huge difference with voltage increase changed my mind.
also, would a quality psu like sparkle or antec 350 watt be enough for my system?
