Need opinions on new build.

Hello,

I was trying to help someone make a new build and this is what we came up with,

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TGtT3C

The case will be, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353066

and the OS will hopefully be win7 and the cpu will be cooled using the stock cooler.

I was just wondering if there would be any compatibility issues, or better parts I could acquire for

the purposes the system is to be used for. For background; My budget is 1.5k

USD and the system will be used for primarily gaming at 1080p, but will be running

multiple instances of a game nearly 24/7, there are no plans to OC the

system in the foreseeable future and modern games will be played very rarely, so the GPU will

probably be at 1-20% load, all the time. The game is also very old and utilizes only one core, so a

high clock rate is a must and since there will be multiple instances of the game running, cpu usage

will be 50%+ for 24/7.

Your Newegg link is broken (goes to Newegg front page), but the rest of your list looks totally reasonable to me.

Regarding the stock cooler, it will work fine and keep the CPU temperatures within spec, but it is fairly loud under load. You might want to buy an inexpensive aftermarket cooler like the Zalman CNPS10X Performa for $23 in order to keep the noise down.

The Hyper 212 EVO is a great HSF for it's price/performance, it performs like most HSF twice it's price.

Check out some other cases, Coolermaster, Corsair, Antec, in the mid $50s price range have good options, more room, reputation, and build quality. My personal preference at the moment is the Corsair Air 540. Do you happen to live near a MicroCenter?

You're definitely exaggerating here. 212 EVO is $35. Coolers that cost ~$70: Phanteks TC14PE, Noctua U14S, Corsair H75. All of these easily outperform 212 EVO, it's not even remotely close.

Other 120mm tower coolers: BeQuiet! Pure Rock, DeepCool Gammaxx 400, AC Freezer i30, CNPS10X Performa, Cryorig H7. All of these are sub $40 and have more or less the same performance as 212 EVO.

I would look for a better quality computer case. Looks like you building a nice computer but looking at a cheap case.

I'm use a Coolmaster HAF XB Evo for my main rig. I really like the airflow it offers and nice cable management. The front bezel mesh also acts like a dust filter which helps to keep the PC clean.

If you are planning on getting the Hyper 212 cooler. Just make sure the cooler will fit in the case.

Agree. The Hyper 212 and clones are are all about the same (not surprising since they are in fact, clones). The only real difference is the bundled fan, but that doesn't matter nearly as much as it used to with PWM fans and ubiquitous fan controls in modern BIOS's.

Edit: Also I don't think either fans will fit in the case I picked out. Any better case recommendations? Preferably one with air filters.

The CNPS10X will probably barely fit. The case's spec says 150mm coolers, and the CNPS10X is 152mm. A couple millimeters is within the fudge factor.

That being said, I agree that you should get a nicer case. I would take a look at the Corsair 200R for a case with a modern design that doesn't break the bank. If you go up the price ladder a bit, the Fractal Design R5 is an extremely nice, quiet case.

Okay, decided to listen to the advice given and get a better case and an aftermarket cooler, this is the updated parts list,

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZCxBYJ

and this will be the case,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA66Z28E2675

I just got the evo 212 for now since this system probably won't be OC'ed, but I changed

to low profile ram with the same specs just in case I plan to pursue OC'ing seriously

later and require a larger fan, also I just use artic 5 because I heard its good, but if

someone knows any better TIM at the price point, much appreciated, although I heard

that it's not really a considerable difference, esp since OC'ing won't be going on.

@mfenn: Was actually looking at the Corsair 200R, but it doesn't seem to come with

fans.

Also, decided to get headphones, new mouse and realized I would need to buy an OS so

I don't want the case to be more than 60ish.

Thoughts on the new changes?

It comes with 2 fans, 120mm front and rear. I have no idea about the quality of the case you picked out. It'll probably work, though it will take a while for delivery since it ships freight from Taiwan rather than being stocked in the US.
