I am building a new system based on an Intel D945Psn motherboard. I will be running the standard equipment, dvd burner, ATI x1800XT, 2 sata hdds. Nothing Special... But I am having a hard time choosing a powersupply for the system.

What power supply do you recommend? It needs to have a PCI-x plug, 3-4 sata plugs and support a Dual Core Pentium D 820

What are your thoughts?
Thank you,
Ian.

If you want the absolute best power supply, get a PC Power and Cooling PSU, they make the absolute best PSUs. Personally I like antec power supplies.

Seeing the next-gen video cards will use up to 300 watts, I would suggest a 600+ watt PSU...

The Fortron's cheaper and more powerful (though both are more than sufficient for your needs), the Seasonic is quieter and more reliable.

Wait. How is the Seasonic more reliable? Is there anything to back that up? Not trying to be a prick, but where did that come from?

Anything in you wattage range from Enermax, Seasonic, Fortron will do. Go for at least 450W.

People "say" Seasonic is more reliable becuase quite franlkly they appear to use better parts and are a very quiet PSU!
Personally the words "more reliable" are like asking somebody "whats the best"....

I find that interesting because wwhen we get into a long post on PSU`s you will alway get the people who are using a Antec PSU or even an OKIA who have never ever had issues with there brand of PSU`s.
Then you will get those who say Fortron or Seasonic are best!
Then you eill get those who on paper will show you that PSU`s with different CAPs or different parts used for the assembly of a PSU have a different track record than its counterpart.

Yet what do you say to that person whose using a Antec for years or even an OKIA who has had no issues with there PSU`s?

The only thing you can say-- I am glad that you have had no issues!

yet to those people with no issues all this supposedly intellectual stuff about CAP`s and who makes what mean nothing!

So no that statement " more reliable" is a 2 edged sword!
For me I will stick with what I use!
For others as long as you are happy thats all that counts!!

How long do you have to wait?

I'm at Computex and what's coming to the states in a couple months puts PCP&C TOO SHAME!!!

Better capacitors, for one.

Interesting. But that does not prove they are more reliable. I've seen Seasonics fail more often than Fortron. Here and in reviews by customers etc. That does not prove that Seasonic is more unreliable than anyone else, but still. I think we have to make these generalizations a bit more carefully.

I'd mention a brand like Enermax, but in fairness be obligated to mention a brand like Ultra, and then have Googer coming in here and blabbing about "bias" and crap like that and I'm five cans of Kirin into not wanting to deal with that B.S.

Celebrating D-day jonny

It's sad, but has come to my attention that both the 430 Seasonic and the Epsilons,
are fitted with OST caps on thier output side. This is discouaging to say the very least.
Long term(>3 years) reliability *may* not be that good with OST. My Emhance, like PCP&C
is populated with Teapo caps. They do a VG job in well ventilated SMPSs but not on mainboards
serving the VRMs.

Even the new revision of Seasonics?

The newer ones use UCC (United ChemiCon) AFAIK. For good rig life, clean output current
is requiored. The output caps filter this current and as such are the most important ones
in the PSU.

Zippy/Emacs uses RubyCon, UCC & the smaller less stressed ones are CapXon.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I ended up going with the: COOLER MASTER RS-550-ACLY-SLI ATX12V it has good reviews and enough power to take care of my needs.

Why end up going with Cool Master power supply? Enermax Liberty 500watts is better and have enough powers to your needs.
