I need a recommendation for a high reliability PSU for the new system I'm building. Recommendations for both cost-is-no-object as well as the best bang for the buck please.

System:
DFI lanparty nf4 ultra-d motherboard
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ CPU
Thermaltake big typhoon CPU cooler
Thermaltake Armor Case
ATI X800 Pro video card
Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs
74 GB Raptor HDD
400 GB Seagate HDD, 2 ea.
NEC DVD-RW, 2 ea.
FDD
Will likely add additional storage at some time.

TIA!!!

Yes, I will be OCing the system, but only to the levels achievable with air cooling (for now). Thanks for the inputs!

Cost no object == PC Power And Cooling.

Otherwise, I know it isn't mentioned often, but the PSU in my sig is amazing. This thing fluctuates les than 1% under load on the 12V rail. And never drops below about 12.6V.

Let me also recommend the Thermalright XP-90 HSF over the Thermaltake, and either the Benq or Plextor DVD-RW drives.

If you need quietness go with the Seasonic S12 500w. Also I think my Fortron FSP 550-60-PLG-B with 36 amps on the rail is great. And this has some of the same parts and design as the PC power and cooling supply which is really a Fortron beefed up. I bought 2 because I like them. Last time I checked they were 85$ at Ewiz.

I vote Seasonic 430W to have a little extra ummph. $99 @ egg, but could probably find it a bit cheaper elsewhere. I use a PCP&C and think they are the best psu's made period, but I have a hard time recommending them to others solely for their noise. The Nidec's (now are Delta's) have gotten a little better as this years models fan controller ramps the fan better than 2004's. I modded mine with a ADDA 80mm that pushes about 20 cfm and is inaudible from 3 feet. The pcp&c's are also sleeved and heatshrink'd like none other I have seen. Top quality. I saw these and they are expensive, but look really sharp and still carry a good warranty even with the mod for an extra cost though. Also, check out the different mods you can have them do under warranty. >http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/...roduct_info&cPath=270&products_id=3155
You did say $ is no object?

Too bad they designed the PSU space like that - pretty stupid, IMO. How can you fit a reduntant PSU in there, or any other oversized PSU (except maybe lengthways). I have an oversized 465W PSU that would be great for that, but it may not fit as it is about 3 7/8" high and 6 1/4" deep by the standard ATX width.
. It's a Delta workstation PSU (OEM for the HP X4000 dual Xeon) that I've modded to the standard EPS pinout. It has a max of 39 Amps on the +12 rails, active PFC and full range input tolerance (100-240V @ 50-60+Hz). Never been used in a system. I was hoping it would fit in my system, unfortunately that would require major surgery. PM me if you might be interested. Exclusivity is its own reward...
. As for regular PSUs, I almost always recommend the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG. Newegg does not have the best price on it - use Froogle, etc. to find best price. Hard to find a better PSU at any price unless you really need more power than it can supply. It has active PFC and full range input tolerance. Remember that 550 W is more than twice what most (yes, even high spec) systems actually use and Fortrons are usually conservatively rated... The Seasonic S12 series is also excellent at a higher "$perWatt of output" ratio. But they are more efficient than most so the full purchase price will eventually be repaid in power savings.
. For 'cost no object' there are only two in that category right now - Zippy and PCP&C. You will be able to add AOpen to that soon as they will have a temporary rebadge exclusive on the new Fortron 700W PSU when it comes out (looks like it's already out in U-Rope as it is in the Tom's test linked below - did very well - $200. yikes!!!). And I think I recently saw some noise about a 1 kiloWatt PSU (the Enermax Galaxy - perhaps made by Channel Well as are most other Enermax PSUs). Linkage

.bh.

Here, have a  !
