Okay, I'm building a new computer from scratch and I'd like to get one that will now kill my GPU or die instantly. Haven't had much trouble with the second problem much, but I've had a few video cards go bad in the past.

Is something like that necessary for a SLI setup of a mid to high range nvidia card? I'm planning to order it all from newegg or wherever and build it myself, so also a good compatible motherboard would help...

It's a gaming computer that I'm hoping will be around 1000, maybe a few hundred over. Buying from newegg probably. And I'll probably go intel/nvidia. No overclocking and 1300x700 or something. I don't really stick to any sort of resolution since it's a variable, not a constant. And I'm building it now, if I can get some good black friday deals online. My main concern is avoiding the dud brands so things will go smoothly as I'm building this myself...

Okay, so the main thing I need to look for is the A number on the +12 rail if I want a high end GPU to run well? I mean, the wattage is a given, I'm going to go decently high there. But I've been limited by the amps on a PSU before and I want to have room to upgrade if needed...

A monitor's native resolution is not a variable, unless you are using an ancient CRT monitor. If that's the case I recommend upgrading to 1080p, your $1000 budget can take allocating $150 on a new monitor, it will definitely be worth it. Gaming and doing everything else on 1080 @23" is so much better than 1366x768 on any monitor size.

In addition, if you were to build a $1000 rig on that 1366 wide resolution, it would be overkill simply because you just don't need that much GPU power to run it smoothly.

You missed the question about needing a new copy of Windows.
