OK,
I've been eyeing up getting an Infocus 4805 projector for some time now. I am getting ready to jump on the purchase and I saw a thread at Fat Wallet this weekend. A guy posted a deal there to get the 4805 at TigerDirect.com. The deal expires at noon today.

Anyone have anything good to say about this website that might make me do this?

I would have taken the costco deal, but there's no costco withing like 100 miles of me and I'm not a member.

I think you'll hear nothing but negative about TD. I don't have any personal experience but 75% of what you read on deal forums is negative. If there's a rebate, you might want to steer clear.

I am afraid of that, but with the price being potentially $200 less than everywhere else after rebate it's so tempting. The price is still $100 less than everywheree else without the rebate factored in.

I am concerned about 2 things:
- Will Infocus honor a rebate from TD
- Will TD try to send me a refurb as a new unit

I've ordered several refurbished computers through them with no problems. I think 90% of the problems people have with this company are related to rebates, so I guess stay away from them if you're quick turnaround on a rebate.

All the purchases I have made at TD have been sans-rebate and they have all went well. If there's no rebate, I say go for it!

Now I'm feeling a little bit better. It's not a TD rebate, it's a manufacturer rebate from Infocus. I might jump then. Even without the rebate, the sale is $100 cheaper than other sites after their rebate.

Their resellerratings score is decent, not spectacular maybe, but I've bought from stores with about the same rating. There are a few very vocal people around here who hate TigerDirect and NewEgg. If you just listened to those people, you might end up thinking that NewEgg was one of the worst etailers ever, which of course isn't true. Just to put things in perspective...

Wow, comparing TD to Newegg. That's a stretch. A HUGE stretch.

But, I'll keep the TD comments to myself, and just post links about how the BBB and others think TD is behaving. Don't kill the messenger.

These were easily found using Google. Just the big ones posted, like BBB, Consumer affairs, Federal Trade Commision, etc. You will also find Florida Attorney General action and more if you look further.

There was also a big thread here at AT where TD was dropped as an advertiser due to some of their practices.

Last thing many forget.
A manufacturer's rebate is only as good as the paperwork you get with the item that allows the rebate to properly go through. Many here have had their manufacturers rebates rejected because the receipt or invoice or UPC code did not properly match the offer. That is the responsibility of the reseller, not the manufactuer, so don't think you will be safe simply because they say manufacturer rebate. You can probably guess which reseller I purchased from that gave me paperwork that resulted in rejected manufacturer's rebate..

Edit:
Forgot to do a google for this threads exact purpose.
While not exact same item, I think it says enough, since it comes from their site.
From Infocusrebates site:

Only purchases made from authorized resellers located in the United States and Canada are eligible for this promotion.

Purchases made from Tiger Direct, Ecost, PC Mall, Mac Mall, and U.S. Costco Business Centers are not eligable.

I will never order from TD again. When things go fine, they go fine. When they don't, you get nothing from them but grief. On a big purchase, I'd stay far, far, FAR away. I used them for about 2 years, but after a series of frustrating situations I called it quits.

I've made five or so purchases from TD, all with rebates, and I have never had any issues.

If you end up having no problems, know that it's like betting on red/black at roulette and winning. Sure you won, but they'll get you next time!

Dozens upon dozens of threads here are filled with first-hand experiences talking about things that are clearly described in that scathing Better Business Bureau report.

You may have a $200 justification but for other purchases, if you can get it at places like newegg.com, and it's only slightly more, go for it or you'll find out the hard way why the few $ you saved will end up costing you big time.

This was a deal. I just didn't know if I wanted to jump on it.
I listed the product, the website where the deal could be found, and when the deal ended.

Glad I saw your post. Now whenever I have something to say that is un-related to a particular thread I'll be sure to go ahead and post a reply. When people wonder why, I'll just say I was following artist99's lead.

No, it isn't.

Though it's a bit too late, my problem with TD is that the last time I purchased from them they sold my credit card # to somebody else. No fvcking way I'm buying from them again, EVER!
