Need Quiet and Effective HSF

My current combo of a Volcano 7 and XP 2000 is just too loud for my dorm room at night. Can you guys give me a quiet alternative? TIA Trey

AX-7 or the newer thermalright heatsinks, with a low-speed fan like a Panaflo L1A, or an adjustable speed fan. There's another thread similar to this still current.

Any Delta fan will do. The smaller the better. Of course.

If you are running a stock system without any overclocking and you aren't planning on doing any overclocking, then I would probably suggest grabbing a Zalman HSF and Fan. It has a really nice flower design and does quite well with cooling a stock system.

It is very quiet and made of copper. The 92mm fan can run in silent mode which is only about 22-24DB... This is pretty much silent and shouldn't cause you any problems related to noise.

Get one of the artic cooling hsf units. Very quiet. Don't plan on over clocking.

I agree with Viper. I have the Zalman(with an XP 2000+) and while it keeps the processor a little hot, it's not that bad. The Zalman is pretty darn quiet and resonably priced(~30 from Casecooler). I have it running w/no case fans and just the psu fans and everything is fine. Like I said, the temps are a bit high but within limits. I leave the comp running SETI 24/7 and it's stable(as stable as a comp can get w/a Microsoft OS hehe )

How hot are you talking? I was thinking maybe a SK7 with a 1LA Panflo. How loud is that?
