Anytime you do business with ANY country, good first place to start is the US Commercial Service. I read their '06 Commercial Guide for Taiwan while doing some research last year, was very helpful. You do have to register (free) with the USCS, but can request not to be contacted.

In terms of books, many of the 'doing business in China' will get you a representative understanding of some basic business and cultural issues...but there are some differences between mainland PRC and Taiwan (obvious political quagmire notwithstanding). Since Taiwan's heyday is arguably over, there aren't any recent, in-print books that I know of, but some of the ones at the top of Amazon's list for China should give you a decent starting place.
Only other advice is to be sensitive to the issue of China, country is fairly divided about if they should pursue any kind of unification/separation/status quo/etc and even once that question gets answered, the infinite shades of gray in between them make it quite interesting for discussion. Official US policy is one China, but at the same time we're "guaranteeing democracy" in Taiwan, selling them various arms, and posturing our military (most Navy) to counter any PRC threat--note the pair of Carrier Strike Group currently in theater. I wouldn't worry too much as the likely of anything happening prior to summer Olympics is nil, plus newly elected government in Taiwan seems to be a bit calmer (carriers are there, in part, to ensure a smooth transfer of power).
FYI, weather is kind of ass there 8 months out of the year...plan on hot and wet (humid and rainy) since I figure you'll be there in June when Computex is. Profile says you're from NC, so not too different (more moisture for sure though). Buy a small umbrella when you get there and keep it with you.
